Jones is associated with perhaps the greatest find of all time: Barry Sanders.
An elusive little back out of Wichita, Kansas, Sanders drew little interest as a recruit, not even from the struggling home state schools, KU or Kansas State.
Tulsa wanted him. So did Iowa State.
And, eventually, Oklahoma State.
George Walstad, a Cowboys assistant at the time, turned Jones onto Sanders. It was Jones' trust in the veteran coach and recruiter that allowed him to take a chance on a player that few others wanted.
