    Appleton Draws KU offer

    Scout.com: Appleton Visit Draws Offer

    More:

Appleton offered: Tyrone Appleton, a 6-3 sophomore from Midland (Texas) College, told Rivals.com he had a great time on his visit to KU Saturday and Sunday. He said he received a scholarship offer from coach Bill Self and would like to make a college decision within a couple weeks. He’s visited Iowa State and San Jose State and still may visit Texas or Kentucky.
“I do know that Kansas is pretty high-up on my list,” Appleton told Rivals.com. “I am very high on Kansas after my weekend visit. I would like to make a decision in a couple of weeks, but I don’t know if I will take another visit before I decide.”

Hmmm...wonder if KU is worried that they'll lose Sherron Collins to the draft after this year?

Not very suprising. They do need some JUCO talent at KU to go with the 8 Mcdonalds AAs they have. Its all over if ISU, if he does chose ISU he will be held out because NCAA (well Kansas) will find he did something wrong in his past.

    Re: Appleton Draws KU offer

Interesting note in the comments section:

    Wow, where do I begin?
    1) If Appleton was offered a scholarship, that means one underclass is for sure leaving, correct? 5 seniors = 5 sholarships given to the signed 5 incoming players? So you offer a scholarship to a sixth guy means bye-bye to an underclassman. I know this is Rush, but what if he were to stay? It would suck to be Appleton... "Just kidding, we don't have any scholarships to give you."

    Re: Appleton Draws KU offer

    That is an interesting note.

But I'll be very surprised (and elated) if we get him.

It certainly didn't help us that he visited ISU over the holiday when Hilton was bare and he was at KU during conference play.

I wish he would've been in Ames for the Mizzou or OSU game - those kinds of things can easily sway a kid, IMO.

I think it's pretty safe to assume this is Brandon Rush's last season. Question is for Appleton, does he want to play behind Sherron Collins? There's no way he's starting in front of him.

If Collins is leaving, i would think Appleton to KU makes sense, because he can run the show for two years. But i doubt a JUCO transfer wants to go somewhere that he won't start, and unless Collins is leaving, he ain't starting @ KU.

Actually, I believe Petie and Haluska are giving up their scholarships after this year, Vette and Brister left, and tehre are two seniors. That gives us a total of 6 open scholarships. Petie and Haluska will keep their scholarships unless their is another recruit we get, ala Appleton or Pomlee.

NBAdraft.net has Rush and Arthur in the first round. I wouldn't be suprised to see Collins leave early as well...

    Re: Appleton Draws KU offer

This could be the first time ever that we don't want great players on a rival team to leave early...as it could benefit us.

Man...gotta love the irony in that one!

I see that KU has 5 commits. Appleton would make 6.

So who's leaving Kansas after this year?

I read an article somewhere that says collins wants to make it in the pros to provide for his daughter and his mother.

Thompson's scholarship is year to year as well. He would be the last one of the 3 to have to give it up though. Mac wants to bank one because they are not sure where they stand with the NCAA on players leaving. There is also a chance they can get a kid because of coaching changes after the season. Mac said last night they are after a couple guards and other players for next year as well.

I read he didn't get to Lawrence in time and missed the KU-NU game.

People are also talking about Chalmers possibly leaving early. I think it's almost a foregone conclusion that KU will lose at least one and probably more to the NBA.
