    Dell Purchasing Issues

Ok, Im not a sales guy so I really dont know how this stuff works.

So I need 9 new laptops for my organization here.

I contact our Dell rep and she prices it 767 per unit.

I thought I would be funny and contact my rep at PCmall and have him quote the same exact thing for me.

    He comes back with 695.

Tell me why its cheaper to go through PCmall who is a redistributer than it is from Dell the manufacturer?

Oh and on Dells site its actually 449. Ugh.

    Re: Dell Purchasing Issues

I have a Dell rep for my firm. I will price it out online or call him. Let him know what I want and ask him "what can you do for me?". He will typically knock at least $50/unit off for me.

If you don't already have a designated rep, see about getting one. Alternatively, if you want, PM me and I will give you the contact info for my guy and see if he can help you.

Just play the end price against the middleman against the mall bottomside in relation to the competitor topside before youu direct order from Shanghai.

I have a named rep from Dell Bos. How much volume are you going to be dealing with? I could have him contact you, they always beat the web prices, but we get something like a 40% discount from Dell because I buy over $1M a year from them.

Ha ha, not that much. Not sure what our current budget is, but its nowhere near that. We may buy 15-20 a year maybe.

Also make sure you are getting the same models. Dell has a completely different line for business than they do for home use. Usually the business line is designed to be used harder and run longer but you pay for it in the end.

Inflate that up to 50 machines per year, and you probably can get a rep that will give you much better prices.

The big difference between the home machines and business ones are that the business line machines use the same parts for much longer, so you can create one image and run with it. The home machines can vary from machine to machine even if you order them at the same time.

Actually dell business computers 9 times out of 10 are much cheaper then the home versions of the same specs

    Example:
    Dell SB
The Dell Online Store: Build Your System
    Dell Home:
The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

Both PC's are the same price but the SB one has a faster proc, more memory, larger HD, can come with XP, and even has a video card with it.

    Re: Dell Purchasing Issues

Yeah, do some price haggling with your rep there and use their website price as your reference for some leverage. Most of those reps will work a deal out if you push them hard enough.
