Cool All Pro Dad - Be A Better Father

For all those fathers out there, thought I would share this web site. Sign up and you get a free daily email with advice on how to be a better father and husband. Tony Dungee is the face of the program, big supporter. May sound a little corny, but I've really received some good information and it has helped my relationship with my kids and wife.

    All Pro Dad

Since we are on the topic, what is the best advice you've ever received from your father? Mine is:
    1) Always be truthful to yourself and others
    2) It takes a lifetime to build a good reputation but only seconds to destroy it
    3) An excuse and a $1 will still only buy you a pop
    4) There is nothing wrong with failure, it's your opportunity to start over again with more information
    5) Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence

Advice from a good neighbor: Take some video as your kids grow up and play it when you get exasparated with them as they get older to remind yourself of where they came from. Take lots of videos of your family as keepsakes and put them on a big external harddrive for the future. Remember those goodtimes. Share the videos later on with your kids.

    1. Always respect my elders/

    2. Always say please and thank you.

3.Here's one that stuck with me in high school. I remember the first real girlfriend I had and I was head-over heels, blindly in love. It was starting to affect my grades and performance in sports. He told me,"It's only puppy love, you won't know true love for a long time". So true. That was always in the back of my mind when I would start to date a new girl.

Re: All Pro Dad - Be A Better Father

My biggest learning experience from my dad was something that he did not say. One night, I was out with my friends, and we were on a gravel road (switching the cooler from one car to the other). When we got ready to take off, I went to do a three point turn, and got my back tires off the road. Long story short, I ended up trying to back into the ditch with the thought that I could drive out. My car ended up staying there. I made the decision to go out with my friends anyway. When I got home late at night, I left a note for my dad about what had happened and where my car was.

When I woke up in the morning, my car was in the driveway, and my dad had written "done" on the note. He never said another word about it. That one word told me so many things.....that he trusted me, that he understood that I would make mistakes. I still gets me teared up to talk about it, but it made me want to do better for him.

Growing up my dad wasn't one for lectures or advice. He taught me all my life lessons by example. Be honest, work hard, respect others, be polite, be humble.

My dad has reminded me of one thing when I complain about the performance of my favorite team:
If that's all I have to worry about (a game), then my life is pretty good.

    I love you dad!

Re: All Pro Dad - Be A Better Father

Sorry, not going to get much play from me on this one. I have few good things to say and will leave it at that.

Tony Dungy though, class act all the way around.
