    RosettaStone - Any Users?

I don't have time right now but I've thought it would be nice to know other languages. I've seen ads for RosettaStone on tv a lot over the years and they seem to have some large entities that use their product and wondered if anybody here had every used their product?

I took two years of Spanish in HS but don't really remember any of it so I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to learn it but I also don't want to dedicate a ton of time to it when I do eventually get around to it.

I've thought about it several times. I'd assume it works, just based on the cost. You charge $200 for something and it doesn't work as advertised....you're not going to be in business very long.

*Edit: Found some reviews (for Spanish)

    Re: RosettaStone - Any Users?

I was given a copy of RosettaStone for Spanish. It's pretty cool but, like you, I rarely have time to use it. The little time I have spent with it has been pretty productive but not sure it's worth the money.

I've look for these on ebay and craigslist for a discounted price, but no luck. Anyone else seen them for less? Do you think the local library would have them?

    Re: RosettaStone - Any Users?

Our public library (St. Paul) has the Rosetta Stone software online free for patrons...all you need is your library card. It might be worth it to check bigger library systems like Des Moines to see if they offer it, and if they don't suggest it.

    Re: RosettaStone - Any Users?

Up until October of last year, Rosetta Stone provided online access through public libraries. We could get it through the Arlington Public Library, and you could access it from home with a username and password. Unfortunately, they seem to have discontinued that service, at least here...

I use it for German. It is good, but you really have to commit the time. I worked on it for Latin for a while, and it was pretty good.

    Re: RosettaStone - Any Users?

I've used Rosetta Stone for German and Greek. It's very good, especially if you've ever learned a language before.

Be prepared to be confused, initially; it uses a fairly unique (but effective) method of teaching.

You like the Greek? I was considering getting it for Greek later.

    Re: RosettaStone - Any Users?

I've looked at this many different times, the only thing holding me off being the cost. Wanted to find out from someone who had used it. Now I will seriously check it out. Call me crazy, but I've wanted to learn Swahili for years.

How, precisely, do you mean that? "you like the Greek" can be "fighting words" in some quarters.

Yeah, I like the Greek version of Rosetta Stone. Greek is an easy language to learn, compared to others. Very logical and very familiar, as our language has a Greek base.
