    OSU-IOWA HYPE

WOW! I guess ESPN must say what it has to "sell" this game... I hope looking back on the week Hawk fans can realize that 1) they are way over rated 2) Tate is NOT a Hiesman hopeful 3) Hawks will be 7-5 and at the Alamo Bowl 4) a pre-season ranking of 16 is way to generous considering they were 7-5 last year and LOST their bowl game 5) THE HYPE for this game was ridiculous, what game have they played so far this year made them even think they would have a chance against OSU? The 2 OT victory over Syracuse? The let down at Illinois? The fact that ISU out played them and if it weren't for a few lucky breaks in the 2nd half they would not have won? (Chandler's circus catch) or was it the beating they put on Montana? Meanwhile back in a real football world; OSU is beating a great #2 Texas team at Texas 24-7.

ISU plays a tough #22 Nebraska team this week. Hawks take note on how to be careful not to over-hype a game you probably don't have much of a chance of winning, then looking like total ***** when you loose by 21. ISU fans won't be hyping this game up ALL week and living in a Cyclone *** grabbing world where we try to act like we are better than we are. We respect our ranked opponents and don't play our games in the presses before we actually play the games. Let's let the presses reflect on the game on Sunday, and not let the game reflect on the media Monday-Saturday.

The Big 10 is weak this year, besides Ohio State and Michigan there are no other ranked teams. The Big 12, meanwhile, has 4 (all on ISU's schedule). Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that ISU has a great team either, but the difference between Iowa and ISU is that you don't see us running our mouths about how we will beat all these teams and over-hyping each game like it is the biggest thing since Ronco's spray-on hair. We will party and celebrate AFTER we win, not for the week before we play.

PS: Thanks Hawks for providing the easiest bet I have ever made in Vegas!

    Re: OSU-IOWA HYPE

I just feel bad for those people that paid $1000 a ticket just to watch their team lose miserably. Oh wait, no I don't.

You're right Timm, Iowa is overrated every year and it's about time Hawk fans admit it. Hopefully this loss brings them back to reality.

After all of our close victories this season, I've learned not to 'expect' a win. I think we have a chance against Nebraska, but that's all I'll say until game time.

    Re: OSU-IOWA HYPE

Iowa going 7-5? I don't like the Hawks either but I can't see them losing more than 2 or 3 with their Big 10 schedule. They'll lose to Michigan then maybe 1 to someone like Minnesota but come on, after Michigan the next toughest team is Wisconsin and they have to play at Kinnick. Northwestern also comes to Kinnick, if that was on the road I'd say that would be the 1 upset game like it usually is.

Let's be more worried about our own season right now. After the way we started every game on the schedule now concerns me. If UNI can nearly beat us who is to say that we won't get beat by Colorado now?

    Re: OSU-IOWA HYPE

Although, I agree that Iowa and the entire Big Ten is oft over-hyped do to there great tv contract with ESPN (a la more national coverage/exposure), and that there is a large contingent of Hawkeye fans that are obnoxious and arrogant. BUT, I would have to say that I long for the day when Iowa State has the type of program that attracts Game Day, and has a stadium that can fill 70,000+ weekly, and the fans expect to beat a top ranked team when they come into the Jack.

With that said though, it doesn't hurt my feelings any to see the Hawk fans humbled on national tv, and I hope the cyclones will have a better performance this weekend on the national/regional stage. Go Cyclones

    Re: OSU-IOWA HYPE

The day Iowa realizes they are over-hyped and over-rated will never come. They are in their own little world and until the Big Ten is as tough as the Big 12 they will continue to "dominate" in their Hawkeye bubble.

How about the plummit in the rankings?!? Too bad they won't admit what everyone else knows....

    Re: OSU-IOWA HYPE

This thread smacks of jealousy -- They had Game Day there! We had our biggest crowd for UNI. They lost to a team that handed Texas (the best team in our conference) their tails at Austin -- we beat by one point a team that lost to Div 2 school. Wow!! Lets make fun of someone else to distract us from the real problems we have.

It is juvenile to post a thread like this when I would trade the squaks 'problems' for our problems any day of the week.

Mark, then maybe you should be a Hawkeye fan.

I'm tired of self-rightous haters. Jealous? Of what? Game Day? Getting your *** kicked on National Television.

    Go to the dark side....

#13 team loses to #1 team...how does that make them over-rated? What happened was what was supposed to happen according to the rankings. The Cyclones almost lose to UNI and your focus is on Iowa??

    There was one?

    Re: OSU-IOWA HYPE

Probably not a good time to post this after, ISU needs a late 4th quarter comeback to beat UNI.

I do agree that Hawk fans are amoung the most unrealistic fans in the world. I also do think that they will not lose more than 2 more games the rest of the season. Also, to say that the Big 10 isn't as tough as the Big 12 is a little unrealistic as well. This year, the Big 12 might be the worst BCS conference in the country.

It makes them over rated because they do not belong in the top 25 to begin with. See above mentioned reasons as to why. What happened was supposed to happen? Ohio State was ONLY favored by 7pts, they won by 21??

The purpose of this Tread was not "jealousy" it was to show that the ISU fans are more concered with playing the game and winning than the hype leading up to the game. In no way am I close to being jealous to being an obnoxious and over spoken Hawkeye fan. I bleed cardnial and gold.

My "focus" is not on Iowa at ALL, my focus is on Nebraska and winning the north. I dont want the hype going into the game to be a destraction to our players and fans. We have a huge obstacle this week, one of many, but if we get wrapped up in "this is the biggest game of the season" we will loose focus on the game in itself.

I am not going to say it wouldn't be nice to have game day in Ames, but that is neither here nor there...to get them here starts with Saturday. I would rather WIN than have 1 ESPN reporter in Jack Trice. Does having 70,000 obnxious Hawk fans make them a better team? I would rather have 55,000 loyal ISU fans, who do not envy the Hawkeyes and wish they were at Kinneck instead for a OVER-BLOWN Hype feast. We are the CYCLONES, I would rather have been at the UNI game than in Iowa City to witness an over sold spanking any day.

I agree 100%. Iowa is still a solid team.

    Re: OSU-IOWA HYPE

I don't think this is a function of jealousy or over-hype. The Big 10 consistantly has overrated teams, but this year Ohio State and Michigan are the real deal. If anyone else in that conference is ranked over #20, they are overrated. Yes that means I think the Hawks are no better than #20 in the land even if they only lose one more game this year. The rest of the Big 10 is that bad. As for the Big 12, we are more balanced across the board, but we don't have 2 major giants (see Michigan and Ohio State above). As for dillusional fans...every fan base has those type of people. I don't like the Hawks just like most of you, and yes they have idiot fans... like we do. Lastly, yes ISU fans are more realisitic and Hawk fans are more over the edge, but I'd like to find a happy medium. I want us to get to a place where we expect to win a bunch of games and expect national attention like a lot of Iowa fans do. We don't need to go that far overboard like Hawk fans and predict Heisman winners and national championships after beating Montana, but part of being a fan is high expectations!

    That being said, GO STATE!

If they're so over-rated, why did they beat us? We must really stink.
