    Re: Weekend Predictions

Does anyone know why Mueller is having an "off-year"? He does not seem to be the same wrestler since his shoulder injury towards the end of last season.

    Re: Weekend Predictions

Mueller is up a weight so you would think he would have less weight cutting issues. My guess is it could be a strength issue. I think he will be a better fit at 149 next year. Also 149 is VERY deep this year (Metcalf only lost to #10 Caldwell and Schlatter only lost to #20 Roberts). Mueller will probably get 4th at Big 12's and need a wildcard to get to Nationals. My guess is that he will get a wild card because he is a returning qualifier.

I expect big things for Mueller next year at 149, even though a lot of the weight will return.

1 Brent Metcalf So. Iowa 22-1
2 Dustin Schlatter Jr. Minnesota 13-1
    3 J.P. O'Connor So. Harvard 13-1
4 Ryan Lang Sr. Northwestern 9-1
5 Lance Palmer So. Ohio State 16-4
6 Bubba Jenkins So. Penn State 13-2
7 Jordan Burroughs So. Nebraska 22-5
8 Josh Churella Sr. Michigan 18-4
9 Will Rowe Jr. Oklahoma 20-2
    10 Darrion Caldwell So. N.C. State 21-3
    11 Morgan Atkinson Sr. Cal State-Fullerton 24-5
12 Adam Hall Fr. Boise State 21-5
13 Scott Ervin Sr. Appalachian State 25-5
14 Cesar Grajales So. Penn 20-3
15 Jake Patacsil Jr. Purdue 18-4
16 Josh Wagner Jr. Missouri 15-7
    17 Joey Knox So. UT-Chattanooga 15-8
18 Don Fisch Sr. Rider 15-6
19 Kyle Fried Sr. Binghamton 7-1
    20 Mike Roberts Jr. Boston U. 21-5

    Re: Weekend Predictions

ISU2007 - do you know the story behind Tyler Clark coming off the reshirt program? Is he that much better then Kist?
Until recently, the plan was to redshirt Clark for 2007-2008.

    Re: Weekend Predictions

In an interview, Cael said Clark was wrestling better, so he got the nod. Earlier in the year, Kist was beating Clark, and I hear Clark is beating Kist pretty good now. I think Cael is a firm believer in putting the best guy on the mat, like last year at 174 when Turner was put in and ended up making it to Nationals.
The wrestle off in practice is one of the hardest results to go by. Of course, the two wrestlers know how to wrestle each other and just because one can beat the other, doesn't mean that one is more likely to win matches against other opponents. IMO, Clark matches up with opponents better than Kist because of his size and style. I think Clark has an outside chance of making it to Nationals. If he can beat Tyler Shinn of Oklahoma St or Tony Pescaglia of Missouri, he get third at Big 12s and go to Nationals. The returning National Champ, Paul Donahoe of Nebraska, is the wrestler to beat at 125.

The bookies are gun shy of doing wrestling bets. Reason is we are not good at picking the line. I will check and see about getting this going.
