    ISU vs Texas

Yup, cart before the horse - but we can look ahead to these games - I highly doubt the players are.

Watching Texas tonight, I wasn't overly impressed. Augustin is damn-near their whole offense (as we were reminded with constantly by the ESPN announcers).

To the hoops gurus - do we put Rahshon on him? If so, I kinda like our chances. If Rahshon can hold him to around 15 points and deny him the ball somewhat, I like our chances even more.

Granted, this was just one game for Texas that I have seen and it was on the road - but they didn't look great. Definitely beatable.

I'm no basketball guru, but I have the same thoughts as you. Definitely a winnable game over a ranked opponent at Hilton.

I definitely like our chances against Texas. I watched them tonight and OSU gave them a run for their money. 22 you are correct they have a one dimensional offense and if we can stop it we have a shot.

    Re: ISU vs Texas

After watching this game, and watching TaMu struggle so badly the KU games are the only ones I don't think we really have any shot at. I am probably a little too optimistic but it seems like the spots 2-12 are wide open.

ISU vs. Texas, otherwise now going to be the pink out game.

If you remember we played pretty good AT TEXAS last year. It was fairly close until the end. Abrams is in a HUGE slump... hopefully he doesnt bust it against us.

    Re: ISU vs Texas

I said it the other day, 2 weeks into the Big 12 season the Conference doesnt look as tough as we thought it would be for ISU (I hope I am not proven wrong).

If we could have 5 mins back from the Baylor game would be sitting good. If we had Lucca think of where this team could be.

    Re: ISU vs Texas

Their offense consists basically of Augustin and Damion James. I think Mac will put Clark on Augustin and AT/Brackins on James. Is it just me, or is Jiri's lack of defense becoming more and more apparent as AT and Craig's is getting that much better? If Thompson could find his stroke on offense I think he'd be a much much better player than Jiri.

Lately it seems AT is our best low post defender.

I think they are taking baby steps with AT, get his D down and his offense will come. He has improved big time this year. For this team to be good Jiri has to have good games on both ends of the court. His shot has got a lot better and he is such a good team player.

    Re: ISU vs Texas

The more and more I see the other big 12 teams... the more I think if everything would have fallen how McD wanted having Taylor and Lucca this year, we would be a legit NCAA tourney team. I know ifs don't count but it just looks wide open this year!

    Re: ISU vs Texas

    A couple things...

    - Abrams in a slump is hurting Texas, good point. If he catches fire, then we're in serious trouble.
    - I agree on the Baylor game, would love to have that one back. At least we've learned from it and have finished out the last 2 games.
    - I think Lucca would help us, but please remember - the kid is still a freshman. IMO, with Lucca we have at most one (two would be a reach) more win.
    - Jiri's defense is lacking, but certainly not one of the worst on the team.
    - AT's defense (especially on Saturday) has been huge for us.
    - Craig's defense is improving? Well...marginally, I guess - but he got burnt more than once this on Saturday.
    - I don't think the Big 12 is quite as wide open as we'd like to think, but it's certainly not a conference that is very top heavy (minus Kansas). K-State, A&M and Texas all have the ability to go on a tear though.

    Re: ISU vs Texas

I am thinking a good strategy would be to sick Rashon on Augustin and to have Rashon play man-to-man full court defense on him, deny him the ball right from the beginning so he has no shot at getting the ball and trying to create one-on-one, I think that would seriously slow him down.

    Re: ISU vs Texas

For some reason I was thinking that Abrams was 6'3" or 6'4", which is a matchup I wouldn't like with Petey. Now that I see that he's (listed) even shorter than Augustin, it's a no brainer. Put Rahshon on DJ.

Amen to that. Like our chances during the big 12 with quality reserves at the post this year. I know we'll get home cooked in Lawrence this Wed. From previous experiences watching ball games at allen field house I kinda figure one of our bigs will be in early foul trouble. Anyone else ever see a game down there. Most disgusting thing you'll ever see live. Opposing guards should be given mace
the way KU's guards are allowed to mug them. I also like AT at the starting 5 next year.
