    Chizik doesn't get jacked around...

You gotta love the discipline that Coach Chizik uses in running his program.
Apparently, with recruiting, if recruits tell him they are committing to Iowa State, he let's them know he expects they will take no more visits. If they do, they are no longer ISU recruits. Josh Jordon was an ISU commit and visited East Carolina. He is no longer an ISU recruit. In an article in his home paper, he seemed surprised by ISU, but Chizik is a man of his word, and expects that from his recruits.
Same goes for players in practice. If they don't work, they are asked to leave.
This guy is tough. He building a program based on hard work, committment and discipline. He is just what Iowa State needs.

Good lesson. It may narrow the field for recruiting, but its teaching a lesson on committment. Eventually it will pay off.

Gotta love his actions. He's building not only a program of integrity, but men of integrity. His players will be better men for it.

Thanks for the insight, by the way...

Does the offer still stand for Leonard Johnson (Didn't he just visit Ole' Miss)?

Re: Chizik doesn't get jacked around...

From the sounds of it, if Leonard was honest with Gene about wanting to keep looking around and not being completely committed to Iowa State, of course he can visit elsewhere.

Interestingly, I think this is the same philosophy that Ferentz has about visiting after you verbaling to Iowa.

I really don't know if they offered him before he had scheduled visits or not, or what the situation is. Only point of reference was the article on the QB.

You gotta like the discipline, but I think this may be a big reason for the amount of decommits. I've heard this was a big reason we lost DJ Marshall. He wanted to check Kansas out, Chiz set his guidelines, and than DJ kind of said screw you guys I'm goin to Kansas.

There does appear to be a doublestandard with this guideline as with guys like LJ and the Prater brothers at Iowa.

Those exceptions might have had previous visitations set up and then committed. Chizik may have honored those.

"Chizik is something different. I guarantee he is building something special here."

I heard this exact quote come from a current player. I know players believe in their coach, but it was said with so much confidence it got me really excited. I think he has most of these guys buying into what he is doing. He wants recruits that are willing to do the same.

I'd go to war for Chizik any day of the week against anyone. I think as the season progressed last fall - we saw the same thing from the players. I can't wait to see what the 2nd season under Chizik brings.

A big key for Gene will be, if/when we start having success, is either maintaining his staff or at the very least - replacing departed coaches with equally as good or better guys.

This was a huge downfall for D-Mac and has been for many head coaches. The assistants deserve just as much credit for anything we do on the field as the big man does.

You mean Marty Fine wasnt a good replacement for Steve Looney?
