Why do we not defend 5 yard or less passes?

Ever since last years Nebraska game, I have noticed the only way we get driven on defense is little dink and dunk passes. Screens and jailbreaks and what ever else thats short works like no other against us. We have the corners, why dont we bump em at the line of scrimmage and make em beat us deep? Other coaches have noticed this, why haven't ours?

Ya know? Nothing like preventing getting burned downfield by giving yourself a 15 yard pad

I get frustrated with this too. However, UNI only yielded 5.3 yards per reception tonight.

Compare that to our 11.2 per reception. I'll take that.

Now, we need to do better with those short crossing routes, but we're not giving up big plays.

yeah, but 5.3 yards per reception at a 75% completion rate clip adds up to A LOT OF YARDS quickly. that needs to come down closer to 50% if the d's gonna help out the o.
