    Windows XP help

I'm having trouble with my computer since last night. When I start it up, it says that I have unrecognized files that have replaced files on XP. It asks me to reinstall files from my original disk, which I cannot find. If I ignore it, and allow it to run, about 50% of my memory is being used in the background.

I have ran a few different spyware/ trojan detectors (windows defender and threatfire), and they seem to find files every time, which I then quarantine. Sometimes when I quarantine the object, my computer crashes. Sometimes it will fix the problem, but then when I restart, I get the same message. Any ideas where I should start?

On a serious note, I had that problem a few months ago, and the problem was that my hard drive was going bad, and not reading sectors which contained some vital information. I have warranty through Best Buy so they took care of it for me so I don't know what to tell you.

    Re: Windows XP help

    1) Back up all your personal data (my documents, favorites, Firefox bookmarks, mail pst and contacts files, etc.).

    2) Find your original XP disks and do a clean install (with formating).

    3) Reinstall your system, programs and data.

    4) Be sure to install a good firewall.

    5) Stay away from questionable web sites.

Questionable websites are the fun ones though!

    Re: Windows XP help

I've had the guy from Repair.com out a couple of times to the house. It's going to be $64 for an hour at your place(in Polk County) or you can take it to the store(Altoona) for the same price. Just be there and have all your needed disks ready to go. He also introduced me to NOD32 anti-virus and spyware program which has worked well and doesn't slow down your system like some other well-known brands. 515-480-7906
