    telephones

Telephone service has been established in the area where I live. I resided in this area for almost four years now so it will be a big adjustment to have a working telephone in the house.

However, anybody that lives farther out in the tundra than I do will still not have telephone service since there are not plans to extent service any further.

In addition, cellular telephones don't work in this area either.

Actually I have mixed emotions about obtaining telephone service. I would opt to not have telephone service if my spouse were not insisting that we have it.

I have considered satellite telephones. To date when I go on extended hiking/snowshoeing trips in the tundra I have always went with someone else that owns one. Both the equipment and the time is rather expensive.

I work for a bureaucracy that offers a wide array of loan/grant products to individuals, corporations, muncipal governments, and non-profits.

Why would you want a phone? Who do you call? Then you would be saying can you hear me now?

I spend a lot of time bicyling, kayaking, snowmachining, hiking, cross country skiing, running, and fishing.

I live twelve miles inland from the coast where a town is located. Approximately 4,500 people live in Nome.

Satellite internet (starband) and for television Dish TV (Direct TV will not work this far north since the satellite signal can not be picked up).

We call it "Showmobiling" in Wisconsin

sounds like a lot of fun. You put snow tires/ chains on the bike?

I recently went snowshoeing in CO. Always thought of it as just a lot of work, but it was pretty amazing. Doing it in a secluded mountain valley helps.
