DM Rag digs deep for ISU rip

Gotta love the DM Rag. How sad is it when they bring up a graduation stat for 10 years ago.

    http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pb...08/1003/SPORTS

Oh gee...and I just looked to see who wrote it. Our old buddy Tom Witosky. I may just cancel my subscription over this one. That's just horrible.

Re: DM Rag digs deep for ISU rip

Doesn't that ******* have anything better to do? Like maybe come onto the radio and face questions about his last article that trashed ISU with the D-1 Scheduling thing? I'm sure he won't come onto the radio to talk about this article either, as I'm sure he'll be "still investigating".

Could it be any more obvious that the Rag hates ISU?

And it gets better....not one mention of two Sqawkeye players getting busted for shoplifting. Nada, zero, zilch. And that happened on Sunday. Funny how the one is the prized recruit of the class...Mr Smith.

Re: DM Rag digs deep for ISU rip

Actually the Rag did report the Smith and Henderson story today. HOWEVER, it happened Sunday and it took them this long to finally report it. That NCAA release on graduation rates came out yesterday and Witosky wasted no time whipping up an article for today.

The graduation rate thing is embarrassing but you also have to factor in how many players left the program for one reason or another and the cirumstances behind that. I don't see this being a problem with G-Mac running the show.

I am not aware of the fact for the tineline discussed. However, how many players left the program for personal reasons, including turning pro.

It just shows you that in the mythical 100-mi radius that is supposedly Cyclone country the Suckeyes are still the preferred team. And I thought things were biased here in Davenport (45-mi from EIU). At least the Quad City Times have reporters on the beat that don't downtrod the Cyclones.

They mentioned 4 names: Stevie Johnson, Marcus Fizer, Jamaal Tinsley, and Kantrail Horton. Let's see it also says Stevie and Kantrail graduated, while the other 2 left college to make millions of dollars. In my eyes all 4 achieved success! I'd give up my college degree for a million dollar NBA contract.

This is just more baloney from the Rag. I mean basketball is a means to an end for some kids. I would take the millions of dollars over a degree any day of the week. What a joke.

What is the point of a college degree? To me, it's to learn the skills to do a job you enjoy which allows you to make money to live a better life.

Isn't that exactly what basketball players with the talent to play at the next level are doing??? Why do they need a degree?

Sure they get to go to college for free but in return, they are making the university millions of dollars (BB and FB). Seems fair to me.

It's another meaningless diversionary article meant to make squawkeye fans feel a little better about their recent basketball embarrassments Smith, Henderson, and Pierce.

    Who really cares?

Just ask Alford! It was just a mistake by some good kids. The usual Jerky Herky spin on things.

The incident occurred at Dillard's in the Coral Ridge Mall, where Bedford said the players each allegedly shoplifted just over $100 worth of items.

Hawkeye coach Steve Alford issued a statement: "Mike and Tyler are good individuals who made a very poor decision, and I am very disappointed in their actions. They will meet all of the legal requirements towards restitution, along with the consequences within the basketball program."

Alford did not mention what disciplinary measures might be taken.
