    7 basketball heavens

Hilton Coliseum, Iowa State University (Ames)

    Opened: 1971

    Capacity: 14,092

Ticket availability: Difficult to nearly impossible

    Ticket information: 888-478-2925 or 515-294-1816;tickets@iastate.edu

    Distance from Chicago: 356 miles

Hilton Coliseum is "one of those places where the local people are just as loud as the students and get just as crazy," said Shane Power, who played two seasons with the Cyclones before transferring to Mississippi State.

Whenever in-state rival Iowa, Texas, Kansas or Missouri come to town, the noise and tension level goes even higher. I had a headache for two days after watching the Cyclones battle eventual national champion Kansas there in 1988.

Former Kansas and current North Carolina coach Roy Williams paid the ultimate compliment after a 1996 game. "There are not many crowds or places in the country that have a better impact on the game than at Iowa State. The Cyclone fans are truly a sixth man. The place is so loud and always a fantastic crowd."

I don't know about tickets being difficult to find, but that is a cool little write-up.

Does anyone know the ticket situation tomorrow night? I'd like to take the family if the weather holds up.

Nothing wrong with having a quote like that in a special feature article in the Chicago Trib from Roy Williams. Any publicity is good publicity, and a first timer coming here after reading the article would be impressed how understated the article is for Hilton.

Hilton is a better atmosphere than the Dungeon over in Iowa City.

Hilton has not been hilton since Eustachy was run. It is so much quieter in there now. It is like the knapp center north now.

Hilton hasn't been Hilton since Orr left. A ticket was very difficult to obtain then, much like the Chicago Tribune described. Hopefully, we can get back some of that energy in the coming years. Attendance wasn't that great during LE's 2 great years, let alone the pathetic ones where he admitted his team sucked.

I wonder if Roy would be willing to do a home and home series in a couple of years.

doubt it. plus, why would he want to risk his 10 McD's all americans losing to 2 star recruits like wesley johnson in ames, iowa? those 2 star recruits suck!

I'd love it. We still owe those guys for a few years ago in the Big Dance. I agree though I don't think Roy dumb enough to come back here.
