Week 8 MVP: Jackson Vroman, Akasvayu Girona

Week 8 was full of monster performances, but Jackson Vroman of Akasvayu Girona registered the biggest one. Vroman became the Week 8 MVP while leading his team to a 91-105 road win against Hanzevast Capitals that qualified Akasvayu for the eliminations round. Vroman was unstoppable, piling up 35 points on 14-for-18 two-point and 7-for-9 free-throw shooting. Vroman added 10 rebounds, an assist, 3 blocks and 7 fouls drawn for a performance index rating of 47. Khalid El-Amin of Turk Telekom, Preston Shumpert of Besiktas Cola Turka and Ricky Rubio of DKV Joventut each registered a 38 index. Amazingly enough, Rubio and El-Amin did so in the same game, as Turk Telekom edged Joventut 96-94. El-Amin led the winners with 33 points on 7-for-9 two-pointers, 6-for-10 three-pointers, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Meanwhile, Rubio had 29 points on 7-for-8 two-pointers, 3-for-3 three-pointers, 6-for-7 free throws, 10 assists and 3 steals in a career-best performance with Joventut. Shumpert led Besiktas to a 77-76 home win against FMP with 27 points on 4-for-6 two-pointers, 3-for-5 three-pointers, 10-for-10 free throws, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 8 fouls drawn. Henry Domercant of Dynamo Moscow, who had 28 points and 10 fouls drawn for a 37 index, completed the top individual performances in Week 8.

Individual highs: Virgil Carutasu of CSU Asesoft Ploiesti, 18 rebounds

Vroman not only was the Week 8 MVP but also its top scorer with 35 points against Hanzevast Capitals. Michael Wright of Turk Telekom remains the competition's top scorer (22.9 ppg.). Virgil Carutasu of CSU Asesoft Ploiesti pulled down the most rebounds all week, 18, in his team's home loss against Hemofarm Stada, and in so doing became the ULEB Cup rebounds leader at 10.4 per game. Victor Sada of Akasvayu and Rubio each dished 10 assists, more than anyone this week. Willie Deane of Lukoil Academic is still first atop the assists table at 6.9 per night. Nate Harris of EnBW Ludwigsburg and Alton Mason of Hanzevast each collected 6 steals in Week 8. Brandon Gay of the Antwerp Giants is way ahead everyone else in the overall standings (3.13 spg.). Serhiy Lishchuk of Azovmash Mariupol had 4 blocks in his team's home win against Sluc Nancy. Ken Johnson of Benetton Olympic Fribourg leads everyone at 3.86 blocks per game. As many as 21 players registered double-doubles this week. Sada barely missed a triple-double with 5 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

I'm curious, is there good money in this league? How much can one make playing for Akasvayu Girona?

I bet it's enough to keep that secret compartment in your shoe filled up.

7 fouls? Jiri could benefit from that.

    Re: Vroman

Ok, my post on Vroman above got me thinking I better make sure my memory is correct before libeling Jackson.

Didn't he get himself in some hot water by having a secret compartment to hide illicit substances in his shoe?

If I am wrong, forgive me, Jackson.

Glen Worly would be in the game an extra 4 minutes.

    Re: Vroman

Not sure about those turk leagues but I remember reading that fizer was making around $1 million per year to play in Israel. So if it is on the same level then they could be getting decent money

My God, that's funny. That guy was a foul machine. What a pile. And Hawk fans still defended him.

    Re: Vroman

I believe that was 7 fouls drawn, not committed.
