    Brian Roberts to Chicago?

Sean Marshall, Sean Gallagher and Ronny Cedeno on the block for Roberts is the rumour

Rosenbloom - Chicago Sports - Blogs.

That would move Soriano down the order where he would benefit more.

    Re: Brian Roberts to Chicago?

Yeah, they've been talking about this on the radio stations in Chicago the past couple of days. It sounds like the only deal breaker right now is the fact that Roberts was named in the Mitchell Report. Once Selig announces the penalties for those named in the report it will become much more clear if the Cubs are going to make this deal happen.

    Re: Brian Roberts to Chicago?

I don't understand this one at all. Why would they give up two young, very talented left handed pitchers for an admitted juicer? As much as the Cubs have been hurting for left handed pitchers the last few decades, why would they give both of them up now? Lilly is good, but he won't be around forever, and probably will cost a lot more money to keep him than developing Marshall of Ghalager.

I don't think I like this either... I think Marshall is the guy to keep.

    Re: Brian Roberts to Chicago?

I would be leaning to this happening as opposed to not happening. Cubs aren't happy with Cedeno's progress, and have the pitchers to get rid of. The only issue is this is a steep price tag for such a player. This is jus the standing history of Hendry giving too much for one guy.

Marshall has a good curve ball and........well that's it. After a team sees it a couples it becomes a liability instead of a good pitch. Rich Hill is in the same boat.

Brian Roberts is sooooo overated. But i guess they could use some more small ball players.

Personally, I'd rather keep Marshall. Cedeno I'd be fine with dumping off on someone. Apparently he's played some games at OF in Venezuelan league this winter.

Cedeno is a complete mystery to me. When I first saw this kid I was actually thinking he could possibily be the middle infielder of the future and have an amazing career. For whatever reason he just can't seem to get it together. That of course will change the second he is traded.

As was stated earlier, I too think Robterts is a bit over-rated, but I see him fitting in very well in the Cubs lineup and allowing Lou to put some players at spots in the batting order where they belong.

I don't know if I would put Rich Hill in the same boat as Marshall. Hill was 4th in MLB in strikeouts and is going to be a pretty good #2-3 pitcher for years to come.

I think Rich Hill and Marshall are both keepers.

You guys do realize that we have DUMPSTER in the starting lineup now right?

    Re: Brian Roberts to Chicago?

Giving up Marshall & Cedeno would be a dumb move.

Give up Dempster, Wood & 2 cases of Goose Island instead for the juicer. And for the Cubs that would be addition via subtraction.

Yes I did see that. At first I was hoping it was just a nightmare I had, guess I haven't woke up yet.

    Re: Brian Roberts to Chicago?

Dempster was a starter in Florida and when he first came to Chicago. We were so desperate for a closer though when he got healthy that he just ended up in that spot. It's amazing how we focus on the few bad games compared to the hundred games he's saved the last 3 years (sorry 87 or whatever number it is)... Kerry Wood hasn't looked great in any appearances this last year, and yet we're giving him a shot at the closer role because of his fastball. Marmol would be my fav for the closer role, but I don't know if he's mentally able to do that. I think we're in a bad way for a good back end of the bullpen before we can start really looking at being a favorite.
However, Brian Roberts would be a good leadoff guy for the team, but I don't think he fits in defensively as we have two young, fun guys up the middle, plus DeRosa who still has 2 years left on his contract, and the corners locked up. Don't know where that leaves anyone if we take on Roberts too.
