    Best Work Out Schedule?

I run 3 miles every day and alternate between bis and tris and chest and back daily. Is this a sound workout regiment?

    Re: Best Work Out Schedule?

    Well...

    What about legs?

Running strips the muscle away, so you need to do something for your quads and hams too. Like deadlifts or squats. And what about core?

    Here is what I do:

Bodybuilding.com - Workout Of The Week - What Is The Best Rippetoe Workout?

I do that during marathon training because it works all the BIG muscle groups and leaves the little unimportant ones like bi's mostly alone.

I guess it all depends on what you are going for? Do you want to strong or look good? I want to just be strong and healthy, so I skip the biceps when I am out of time and do core and large muscle work.

But doing both running and lifting is a great thing to do, just don't overtrain and start getting injured.

    Re: Best Work Out Schedule?

Im impressed Brian with no/little bicep work....vanity is not in your program

Doing the bi's/tri's on the same day is alright as far as im concerned....however i only do that when im lifting lighter weights at a faster pace...while one muscle rests(bi's) you can hammer away on the tri's. I alternate back and forth between the 2 with no rest between.

However for just regular lifting(more for mass), i do similar muscle groups on the same day which would be triceps, and chest and then a few days later go to bicep/back.

and yes legs are important....i used to run hills when i was younger. they were tough, but once i started doing deadlifts and such they got much easier.

Personally I like working on core muscles and body weight exercises, but I have been away from it a bit. :(

Great post. I run a speed and performance camp for HS football players and usually get a kick out of it. These guys tell me how they can squat 400 pounds but when at the same time they cant go up and down the gym floor doing lunges without getting pooped.

Pull ups, dips, lunges, side lunges, squats, are all great exercises to add to a workout.

I am totally with you. You can get very strong and fit without using weights. I am not totally opposed to weights, but find people use them for the wrong reasons. And it is nice to be able to do some great exercises during the day during breaks without any equipment. Unfortunately for a lot of people it is about "looking strong" versus "being strong."

This kind of depends on what your goals are? Are you trying to put on mass, get stronger, or tone up? Bodybuilding.com is a great website for workouts and tips. Also, Muscle and Fitness magazine also has a lot of great tips and even has diets for you to follow.

Definitely. Probably one of the leanest, strongest times of my life is when I work construction for 10 hours a day during the summer and do pushups and situps before bed.

Call Balco. haha JK. A general resistance training program of any kind should help that.

Great website. Don't forget that nutrition and rest play a large part.

Anyone have any tips for cutting body fat?

Anytime Fitness is holding a Fitness Challenge through Meredith Corp. I signed up and it started Thursday.

I was wondering if it really worked. I finally realized that changing the number of sets, reps, weights, and exercises every 4 to 6 weeks keeps things going nicely. I also realized the importance of stretching...

    Re: Best Work Out Schedule?

Dont forget weight loss really is not that hard. To lose weight its simple math. Calories in - calories burned.

If you eat a good diet of fresh foods and limit calories.... start a cardio and/or resistance training program...you WILL lose weight. The problem is people don't usually add up the calories in.... and then wonder why they dont lose weight.
