There is a good article on Troy Davis over at CN. I enjoyed it. I can't believe it has been 10 years already.

Re: Troy Davis article at CN

A good fun read but sad to remember why TD didn't win the Heisman. Plus we lost five games by a total of 17 points. (including the infamous Wyoming OT loss) Our defense was horrible but offensively pretty sound with TD, Doxson, and a good line. (Tim Kohn and Patrick Agafa ?sp) If we pull 4 of those losses out we probably get a bowl game and TD the heisman. Second year success for Dmac would have really sped up the turnaround.

I am proud to have sent in a "top 10 ways to get Troy Davis the football" to the Rag -back when they had people's comments on the back page of the Peach, and got it posted. We were totally frustrated by Walden not getting him more carries, it was plain to see he was bursting with talent. I can't remember all of the reasons, but the #1 way was "Hand it to him".

I don't want to bash on him, because I really did enjoy the article, and I enjoyed his stuff in the Daily when I was a student.

Walking down the block of concrete down to the then glistening artificial turf of Cyclone Stadium moved a man diminutive in size, but gigantic in heart

That sentence just had some strange phrasing.

The only two men who have ran for more yardage in a year won the Heisman trophy and are in the NFL Hall-of-Fame. Barry Sanders and Marcus Allen.

It appeared like Troy had actually reached his impossible goal of winning the Heisman.

Also phrasing issues in those portions. Aside from that, just some overusage of commas. Like I said earlier...I really liked the article as a whole...I don't want to come down on him.

Re: Troy Davis article at CN

What Troy did given the circumstances of the time is simply amazing. He is a true icon of the sport and of ISU.

It is nothing short of a crime he didn't win the Heisman after back to back years over 2000yds. It still pisses me off to think they handed it to Danny boy from Florida. What's ridiculous is he didn't even win the Doak Walker award for the nations top running back. Apparently Texas felt they needed to protect their own by giving it to Byron Hanspard from Tech one year and I forget who got it the other year, but needless to say it wasn't Troy.

A crying shame such a great college performer wasn't rewarded with individual awards or even an opportunity in a bowl game.

Troy even gave up his last year so his brother could take over the reigns.

A true champion and I look forward to cheering him someday when he returns to Trice to be recognized as the greatest back to wear the ISU uniform.
