    Windshield repair

Anyone in DM ever used one of those companies that will come out to your office and replace your front windshield? Mine has a big nasty crack in it, and I am finally getting sick enough of it that I just want it fixed.

    I would love some opinions.

If you do not run it through your insurance, they give a discount (so they do not have to dink with the paper work)

My deductable is $500, so it would not do me any good to go through insurance.

Harmon Glass. I had a windshield replaced years ago, and it never leaked. A smaller company did one, and it did leak. Maybe it was the installer, but my family (Omaha area) likes them.

    Re: Windshield repair

Is it a crack or a rock chip? We've had a couple of rock chips taken care of for free through our insurance using the people that come your work and do the work in the parking lot. Our insurance takes care of them without having to pay any deductible. I can't remember the name of the company that we used though.

    Re: Windshield repair

Funny Story (about windshields). About 8 years ago I was heading into work (5:30 am) and there are cops all over the place. There is a dump truck company down the street, and someone had shot the windshields out off all there dump trucks, a fleet of 20. They had every auto glass firm in the central Iowa area there fixing them up that morning, so they could go to work. Middle of the summer and their busiest time of the year.

The rumor was that one of the trucks probably picked up a rock and broke someone's windshield and the trucking company told them to go get bent.

It started out as a rock chip, and then last summer, one of the kids thought it would be fun to spray water on the car when it was like 95 out. CRACK! Went through the whole windshield then, so it needs to be totally replaced.

That is why you always get rock chips fixed. You can still see it, but it will help prevent the windshield from craking.

    Re: Windshield repair

I replace the windshield in my car about once a year. I found that typically, it costs less to just pay for it yourself to get it replaced. The windshield replacement runs about $150 normally whereas if you go through the insurance company, it will cost you your deductible ($250).

    If you already knew this....nevermind.

    Hey,

Shoot me an email and I can get you a good price. If your deductible is high then maybe we can stay under that. Iowa Glass Auto Glass Center is the best way to go!

I've had good luck with Auto Glass Center in Cedar Rapids but they are also in the DM area.

I've gone to Auto Glass on 86th and Hickman and had success as well, but haven't used their mobile service.
