    Clemens sues former trainer

ESPN - Clemens files defamation lawsuit against ex-trainer McNamee - MLB

Does anyone at all really believe Clemens? The fact that he took so long to make statements and then all his answers seem so rehearsed who does he think he's fooling? This just muddies his legacy even more and is going to hurt his hall chances if he keeps dragging this out. Does anything think that if he just admited it from the start that he's still get elected into the hall? Now with this cloud hanging over his head you have to wonder if it's going to hurt his chances more now than if he had just come out and admit it.

I've said it before, what does McNamee have to gain by lying? Nothing! And he probably has more to lose by lying on top of it so I think his testimony is pretty credible at this point. With Pettitte admitting HGH use from the same guy just validates it even more. And funny how the bat throwing incident in the World Series in 2000 coincides with the time frame he was acused of taking roids too. If you can remember, Piazza broke his bat and Clemens threw it at him while he was going to 1B for no apparent reason.

I'm finally sick of this Clemons stuff. Nobody will EVER know what really happened. Just let it all go away. Someone is obviously lying and I really dont give a crap who it is. I love baseball as much as anyone, but I love talking about baseball not serioids. When a player is caught taking it they should be suspended but other than that I dont want to hear about it.

Im just thankful that this talk has not hit the NFL yet. That would eliminate about everyone in the NFL.

If the NFL is smart they will avoid a 'probe' at all costs... I wonder how many NFL names were turned up by the Mitchell investigators?

Clemens is a sell out. I could care less what happens to him. I just wish we could close the lid on the steroid era and move on. Go Twins!

    Re: Clemens sues former trainer

Any bet that he's doing this to try to dave face after this PR fiasco?

He files this suit, lets it play out for a while and makes it look like he's really mad and fighting this. Then, all of a sudden, he drops it and it's announced that a "settlement" have been reached out of court. This way Clemens makes it look like he went after the guy and he's trying to protect his name.

All a stunt. Maybe I'm thinking about it too much.

Personally, knowing his ego and how he hates to lose, and the fact that he is still a power pitcher in his 40's, he probably did juice somewhere along the way. The issue is, no matter what anyone says, no one has any proof that he did so this would have faded away like the MacGuire issue if he just would have kept his mouth shut and retired.

    Re: Clemens sues former trainer

The only reason he is filing a suit is so he can avoid questions in the congressional hearing. All he has to do is decline to answer due to a pending case and there isn't a whole lot they can do. After the congressional hearings the case will get dropped.

    True. Good point.

He could have acted like he forgot how to speak English.

    Re: Clemens sues former trainer

I am not a huge fan of Clemens, but one thing I thought of that backs up his story is that I never noticing he had a big change in his size of his power over the period of time. he always threw it hard and I remeber he was a big guy when he started in baseball.

I really do not care. They are going to have to put some of these guys in the hall of fame or there will be a 15 year period with very few inductees!!

Actually, there was a very noticible change in size and velocity around the dates that McNamee mentioned. Clemens was a MONSTER in Toronto, got considerably bigger and more cut, and really started to pump gas. Remember, one of the reasons Boston traded him is some loss of velocity in his FB.

I just wish we could talk BASEBALL instead of steroids. It seems like forever since we have been able to.

Ok, I disagree with this statement somewhat because all we heard about when Bonds was going for the HR record was roids and not many came to his defense yet everyone just wants the Clemens thing to go away? They are the same thing, different players. Neither have been tested positive and both have people saying stories about them. I think if people are going to throw Bonds under the bus Clemens should be too. The whole past 10 years worth of baseball should just be struck with an *asterick and move on really. The Mitchell report is just the tip of the iceberg. Those not named in it just did a better job of covering their tracks because surely a lot more than those named have been involvled with steroids.

This whole lawsuit sounds way to much like O.J.'s quest for the real killer. A lame attempt to make it look like he didn't get totally busted.

Throw the last 15 years under the bus...
I think the only thing a positive drug test shows is stupidity. Marion Jones had over 160 negative tests, so what is it worth?

I think they should be randomly tested, blood and urine. Also the athletes shouldn't be given a list of banned substances. That only tells them what they can get away with.
