Basketball Programs are not built over night

Mike Krzyewski's first 4 years at Duke:

    Year 1: 1980-1981: 17-13
    Year 2: 1981-1983: 10-17
    Year 3: 1982-1983: 11-17
    Year 4: 1983-1984: 24-10

Last time I checked Coach K is a great coach and has built a great program. Granted he started this 25 years ago, but it still takes sometime to get stuff going. He does get top players now but they still run a system on offence. Some of his best players were big busts in the NBA.
Sure it is nice to get the players that are NBA ready, but come tourny time it is experence that wins most of the time. Heck look at KSU thus far, they have 2 top 10 players out of hs, a top 5 freshman class, and their record isnt much better than ISU's.

I agree with you on your thoughts regarding building a program, but saying KState has a record about the same as ISU's is a bit misleading. KState has played a bit tougher schedule than the Cyclones thus far (KSU at #66 while ISU at #143).

This is KSU's year if there is going to be one. Dont look for Beasly to be back next year. Its now or never for KSU.

I don't think there's a coach out there that can't say that, but if you look at the past couple of decades:

Corey Magette, Elton Brand, Loul Deng, Grant Hill (before all the operations), Bobby Hurley (befor the car crash) would make a heck of a starting 5.

Until we played the last two sisters of the poor and KSU played at Xavier, they were almost exactly the same. They also have a lot of seniors on that team (even though they aren't that great) and they have Beasley who might be the #1 draft pick. Right now they are on the outside looking in at the NCAA tourney. Frankly I'd much rather be in our shoes right now than theirs.

Bill Walker is probably gone after this season too. Then it's back to the cellar for KSU.

shane battier, carlos boozer, chris duhon, mike dunleavy would be a few more that are currently doing well in the league right now

Re: Basketball Programs are not built over night

I figured some would not agree but the main point is it takes sometime for programs to get going.

KSU has lost to: George Mason, Oregon, Notre Dame, and Xavier if ISU would have had 3 of those losses some would think the sky was falling. They only have one win over a BCS school, and I dont think there are any real mid majors they have beat.

Doesn't SOS reflect the whole year?? But I guess we do play all the same conference games aside from a few possibly, so their non-conference games must be of a greater difficulty.

It is shown that if you stop Beasley if you can, you can beat the Wildcats. He plays good, they play good. He plays bad, they play bad.

Coack K's system doesn't work. He abandoned his old system after Year 4 and started running the motion offense.

    (Sorry cyclone#1, I couldn't resist. )

SOS can be misleading. If you 10 play teams in the 250-300 range and 10 in the 1-50 range you might be 10-10, but you SOS would probably be around the same as a team that played 20 teams from the 125-175 range, and could have a much better record.

Don't kid yourself...Coach K adjusts what he is doing to the players he has...they played very up-tempo with Jason Williams and have been less so with a PG like Paulus.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
