    Another idiot Doyel column

Sutton, or Mr. 800 is back, but he smells rotten - CBSSports.com

Does anyone else think, "Hi I'm Gregg Doyel. My job is to look for anyone and everyone I can bash in my article to make me feel better about myself. It's been long since I've forgotten the difference between fact and fiction. I'm a big tool, but at least I can write mean about other people," when you read a Gregg Doyel article?

That being said, I'm not even a big Eddie Sutton fan.

I think Doyel is one of those perverse people who get some sort of enjoyment out of ticking people off. He probably feels important and proud over opening his email inbox every morning and seeing it full of hate mail.

I just sent him a great hate mail. He once posted mine. It was a small victory.

    Re: Another idiot Doyel column

I actually (gasp) have to agree with Doyel on this one. I like coaches that get records the right way, the honorable way. Records lose their aura when has-beens like Sutton squirm their way into a program just to get a record. He's not doing it for the game, he's not doing it for the players, he's not doing it for the fans - he's doing it for his ego and only his ego. Had he been interested in getting back into coaching because he loved the game, that'd be different but it's clear that wasn't the case.

Sutton has never been a model coach but this makes me respect him even less. I also hope the AD gets the can after the season. What kind of AD hires a coach just to stroke their pals and their own egos? Shouldn't an AD look for the best possible coach that is proud to be a part of the school and is eager to take the reigns for several years? Does anybody actually believe Sutton is at SF because of the school or the players? Is he really a good guy to bring in instead of a coach that can recruit kids while telling them he'll be there after 2 wins to help them be better student athletes and people?

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

After last year and this year, I bet OSU would love to have him back.

Exactly. Naming a successor well before the current coach retires is supposed to make for a smooth, easy transition to the new coach. (See Tom Davis to Keno Davis for Drake) Notsomuch with Sean. Another year or 2 of this and he will be gonzo.

He doesn have the Sutton scowl down though, I will give him that.

Thats fine if you agree. I see a lot of his points. My points is that every one of his columns seems to bash someone rather justified or not.

Absolutely agree with that - I've yet to see him provide actual insight into the sport of basketball. All his columns are more or less "hit pieces" and usually they're not regarding topics that most people care about.
