    Vacuum advice

So my wife is at work and I get the day off. Of course she left me a list of things to do (bless her heart) and one of them was to research vacuums. I see this as en excuse to get on fanatic and ask some cyclone fans...anyways:

What are some experiences everyone has had with vacuums. We are looking to not spend too much, but want one that works well and isn't too heavy or too hard to clean.

    Re: Vacuum advice

We just got a new one a couple weeks ago. It was a bagless Hoover but I don't remember the model number. Target seems to have as good of selection as we found but the price range is amazing. We decided we didn't want to spend over $100 on ours but I think the one we got was originally $150 before being on sale for $99.

In my personal experience, a weiner dog works about as good as our previous Eureka

We purchased a Dyson from Best Buy last year. works awesome. light-weight, but kinda high in price. here is a link to one that is close to what we have. it cleans all types of floors, and if you have pets (we have a dog and 2 cats) it is worth it.

I think we might have the same bagless Hoover. It had a HEPA filter or whatever, because I have lots of allergies and apparently vacuuming is about the worst thing on earth for dust allergies. Love the bagless - it's a lot easier to maintain.

Wait until your drive motor burns up and clogs with hair. Thank god we got the extended warranty with our. When it works it's the best vacuum I've ever seen, just not real durable.

I've heard Eureka is a pretty good brand...anyone have one of those? Maybe I should call places and see if they have vacuum sales.

    Re: Vacuum advice

2 important questions that affect the price:

    1) Do you want to deal with bags?

    2) Do you want a belt-less vacuum?

I hate both since I was always replacing both on my old Hoover Windtunnel. We stuck with Hoover but went to the new model without belts and without a bag. We paid just over $200 at Sears for it.

    Re: Vacuum advice

I have a Hoover Wild Tunnnel that I bought 7 years ago from Target. Mine has a bag, although I wish it were bagless. My experience is that the one's with bags tend to lose suction. Also if food goes in the bags, they tend to stink the next time you use it.

I paid $185 for it, but it was regularly priced at $350.

    Re: Vacuum advice

Eureka Big Boss is rated on Consumer Reports as best for the $. It is about $140. I have one and love it. Only downfall is that it is heavy.

** Also you get more suction from a vacuum with a bag. Bagless are nice but are not as powerful.

I think Eureka, Kenmore, Dyson and Hoover will all probably clean the floor - it's just a matter of how heavy the vacuum is, how many times you'll have to go over the same spot and what type of warranty you'll get - not to mention the price you're willing to spend. Just make sure to get one that is height adjustable, has a hose attachment, is bagless and has plenty of AMPs if you have much carpeting. You can always return what you get if the wife isn't happy (just remind her she can't return you).

I personally didn't want to spend over $100 since we have all shorter-height carpet and non-shedding dogs but that's just the middle-of-the-road for price & features - you can spend a lot more or a lot less depending on how much you need.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

    Re: Vacuum advice

We've had a Dyson for years. They work absolute wonders if you own dogs that shed a lot. No problems with ours (knock on wood). Best vacuum we've ever owned, definitely worth the extra cash.
