    Coaching Staff Changes

According to the Southern Mississippi web site, Barney Farrar is joining their staff.

Football Coach Larry Fedora Announces Part of Initial Coaching Staff :: The Golden Eagles name five assistant coaches for the 2008 season.

Farrar came to the Golden Eagles after spending the last year in football operations/quality control at Iowa State. Prior to his time there, Farrar also served a year as assistant athletics director at Ole Miss for a year for football external affairs after working 12 years at Rice for coach Ken Hatfield. During his time at Rice, Farrar worked as an outside linebackers coach for three seasons, before moving to defensive ends for the next eight years and then oversaw the cornerbacks during his final year in 2005.

Farrar also worked for Hatfield and coach Danny Ford over a 10-year period at Clemson, serving in a variety of roles.

The native of Kossuth, Miss., played his collegiate football at Northeast (Miss.) Junior College and at Delta State. As a Statesman, Farrar helped DSU accumulate a 12-8 record in 1981 and 1982 while also serving as a team captain his senior season. Farrar earned a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1983 and a master's degree in physical education in 1985, both from Delta State.

Farrar has a son, Clint, and a daughter, Cari.

Man, that sucks. I really thought he wanted to be here for a while. Oh well, see if I ever trust him again.

Yeah it drops to minus 15 and he bails. What a wimp. You have to admit most of those coaches from the south are probably freaking out right now.

Cold = good motivation for coaches to spend winter in Texas recruiting. Win, win.

Too bad Canada doesn't produce more quality coaches, we could offer them paradise in Iowa.

So alothough you attempt"ed to say you didn"t understnad, now you do. Fair enough?

    Re: Coaching Staff Changes

Guess the family said let's move back to Mississippi or else the two kids are still back in Miss. Wonder how long until he is replaced.

Does an operations/quality control guy make sure everything goes according to plan, recruit visits come off fine, team buses show up, etc?

    Re: Coaching Staff Changes

I'd like to know exactly what his job entails as well. Sounds like a lot of behind the scenes stuff.

I'd be interested to know if he is taking a pay cut to get back to the South. Can't believe Southern Miss. is paying that much.

    Re: Coaching Staff Changes

This seems like a big loss. He was a player favorite, a good recruiter, and his loose attitude helped balance the intensity in practice.

Can 33 chime in as to exactly what his duties were for the program?
