    Any computer people?

Could any one give me assistance on why my CPU usage would be running at 100%? and how I might correct this.

    Re: Any computer people?

    What OS are you using?
Can you get to task manager, either by right clicking on the bar at the bottom of the screen, or by doing an alt-ctl-delete?

It can be a sign that something huge is running in the background...or in my case a few months ago...meant my hard drive was going bad...

    Re: Any computer people?

Look at the applications running in the task manager. It should say how much processor each is using.

    Scratch that -

Look at the Processes tab of the task manager. Look for the process with the high number in the CPU column..

I have done that and Mozilla Firefox and System Idle Process seem to be eating the majority up.

Flash-intensive sites can eat a ton of processor. So can stuff like ESPN360.

    Re: Any computer people?

system idle process should be like 98 percent
that just means your idle time is taking up most of the CPU, which is a good thing.

    Re: Any computer people?

98% of your CPU is idle, that's good. Now stop slacking and load up the pr0n to get that bad boy down to around 50%!

Actually, the system idle process doesn't differentiate between cores (or processors). If you have one core maxed out, and you've got two cores, system idle will be 50%.
