Re: Chris Williams making excuses left and right

CW posted a bunch of articles that weren't exactly full of sunshine and rainbows, with one example being his piece about the defensive line.

Yes, he writes things that create excitement, but he's as sober a homer as you'll ever find.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

It's been going on for two straight years, and it has become ridiculous. I can't tell if Chris really believes some of the things he sells, but I have to admit he is a hell of a salesman and because of that this site does very well. He deserved credit for that, but he also deserves blame for this type of crap. He's taking it like a man and I applaud him for that.

I think there is a fine line that a guy in Chris' shoes has to walk. His job certainly has benefits when he is connected with the program. It's pretty tough to stay connected to the program if you're constantly bashing the players and the coaches who are running it. On the flip side it's pretty tough to maintain what I would call "journalistic integrity" when all you're doing is writing dreamy things about a team that ends up being flat out terrible. You can't honestly tell me there hasn't been some serious red flags these past couple years. You have to cover both sides of it, and Chris just focuses far too much on the positives. You can be critical and respectful at the same time, and I would think his connections within the program would understand and even respect that (then again we all know CPR can be a bit immature with the media so who knows).

I get the positivity, but like I said, there's a fine line. In my opinion, which I'm entitled to, Chris crosses the line by being far too positive and many people on these message boards read much too far into things that he says which then causes them to create totally unrealistic expectations,. In some cases it makes the fan base look a tad bit ridiculous. Like Stormin for example... That guy severely fed into all the hype. His comments all offseason just look insane right now. Some of that type of stuff is absolutely the result of the way Chris, CPR, an JP go above and beyond to sell the fan base even if they know damn well the stuff they are saying is a huge stretch. This type of meltdown wouldn't happen if the Cyclone fan base wasn't served so much hype these past couple years. Chris doesn't work for the University. He's the one person out of those three individuals who has a lot more room to be critical and he just doesn't do it.
Ok, this is funny. Sells hype? 2013-14 Iowa Hawkeye men's basketball anyone? Same damn thing.

I must be missing something... There have been LOTS of sunshine pumpers on this and other sites, but I never felt CW was one of them. He was a homer, running a homer website, with connections and passion for the program. I never once saw him hyping this team. We ALL thought the WRs would be improved. We ALL thought the OL would show up. NOBODY with half a brain thought the defense would stop a feather at the point of attack.

Seems like a lot of misplaced frustration and anger.

CW - I still love you man! Keep up all the great, great work! Your passion for this website and for the Cyclones is not misplaced nor unappreciated.

Totalitarianism, eh? It anyone, literally, should be critical when it's warranted, it's a person in this position. If "the man" on this sight can't be critical, it seems Orwellian to me.

Sad part is, I think the D-line was the best part of our defense today.

Can someone fill me in... Did Chris have something to do with the outcome of the game? He runs a fans website for f**k sake. Some of you need to get your heads checked if you're blaming our ineptitude at football on a website publisher. Would it make you feel better if he said we sucked? It certainly wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game.

Re: Chris Williams making excuses left and right

This thread is a bit mean. Go create a Cyclone version of goEmaw if you want a forum full of bs Chris WIlliams clearly wants to provide direct or very close access to the program to go along with everyone offering their opinions on the forum. He pumped the tires of the team that jumped to the 14-0 lead with Wimberley looking like the most explosive player on the field. Wimberley, the best TE in teh Big 12, and some decent receivers should always be enough to take down a 1AA if the team is properly focused. But a weak defense and a qb that makes Steele Jantz look like a superstar got exposed and the coaching staff had no motivational answers they used it all up getting the team to jump out to that lead. There was no regrouping at half time like I expected either and I thought Rohach would start the third but he didn't.

Awful D and an awful head coach is a losing combination.

Weren't you the guy taking info from different sites and posting on your site? :) It's a message board if you are going to take the great job you are awesome from some posters you need to have a little thicker skin if you are going to be called out occasionally.

Don't think anyone is "blaming" CW for the **** show we all saw today. The problem is that he couldn't call a spade a spade, them got all pissy about being called out about it.

What? He runs an ISU fan site, he's not supposed to be an unbiased reporter for espn or SI or something. If he needs to be overly optimistic to keep his ISU connections, so be it. He provides a lot of good content.
