Right, it's rational to keep a coach on that has this program where it is right now.

The only rational thing to do is keep a coach like that and hope for the best while we are an embarrassment to the state and to the big 12.

Because CPR ate the only blueprints for the endzone. Based on the athletic department mandate of 5 hoiburger's a week, we might have to wait a while.

if you have players who are quitting after the 1st qtr. of the 1st game of the season, that maybe a coaching problem, but for a different reason than you are identifying. maybe a coaching problem in that the coach is getting the wrong players if you really believe said players quit 1 qtr into the year.

I guess that's not really anything new though right? From the business point of view how do you fire a guy that sells out the stadium and hits record crowds consistently? If we sold out every game and went 0-12 I don't know how you can fire that guy. But either way, after one game this year is irrational to fire anyone. Maybe fire the fans for spending money on hope instead of results.

I agree but that's not rational.

The phones have already started ringing. Agents, coaches, assistant coaches and alumni are inquirin. The coaches are throwing their names into the hat. With the salary that will have to be paid, because an empty end zone will be a big embarrassment, ISU will get a coaching staff upgrade.

A sold out stadium two years in a row based on hope. A new end zone based upon sold out stadiums. Hope is fading fast. If the record starts 0-3, or worse, and the crowds drop off, then it's all over for the coaching staff.

I like Paul as much as thousands of other fans and alums, but enough is enough. This is embarrassing, two years in a row. It's all about recruiting and the results speak for themselves.

I heard this about Rhoads before he was hired as the head coach.

We could lose the rest of the games this year and Rhoads would probably be back.

The question then becomes is it Rhoads or is Iowa State a tough place to recruit? I live in Columbia Missouri and people here were surprised when ISU fired McCarney.

Regarding replacing Rhoads with Mangino - the offense scored 14 points on North Dakota. I'm not impressed.

    Re: Why delay the inevitable?

Rhoads isn't going anywhere no matter what happens this season. Season ticket sales were strong this year, and with an upgraded stadium next year, they will be strong again.

We will return this coaching staff for next year, unless someone leaves on their own accord. Next year will be the make or break year for CPR. Another season of what I assume will happen this season (after last year's results), will force JP to pull the trigger.

Agreed. No chance that he's fired this year.

I do think it's inevitable however.

I've heard very similar from my cousin who played for Rhoads.

Great. So we have a bunch of boarderline FBS/FCS players, who do not buy into their coach.

That's not a great formula for success.
