Re: Friday QOTW 8/22 - Hangover Cures

Weekend, and stationary: bloody marys, coffee, and a breakfast containing some combination of eggs, potatoes, and meat. Tons of hot sauce/salsa on that.

Weekend, and have to come home from somewhere: Subway, loaded with veggies, most importantly jalapenos and bannana peppers. Chased with coffee, water, and ibuprofen.

    Weekday: Pray for death

Hydration and 2 ibuprofen. Something with flavor is often more satisfying than just water.

If nausea accompanies the hangover, than the only remedy is time....unfortunately.

As a person who doesn't drink excessively very frequently, I take milk thistle a few days in advance of knowing I'm going to have too many. And I haven't had a hangover since I started doing it.

In a nutshell, milk thistle is an herb that helps liver function.

Edit: this is a prevention not cure.

I don't get them. I really don't know why. I have heard a few others older than me that said they never did either when they were my age but get them now.

Slam some agua and then go run 4-15 miles. It sucks while doing it, but you feel loads better by the time you're done.

In college we'd sometimes hit the KFC lunch buffet. It always seemed to get rid of it.

Have a bachelor party tomorrow night so I may try this. Hopefully 24 hrs is enough time. Where does one get it?

The only cure is prevention and the only prevention is water.. Before, during and after. You're welcome.

Hair of the dog, my friend.

I never got one for the longest time, then it seemed like as soon as I hit 30, even a few beers will give me a hangover-like headache anymore.

Re: Friday QOTW 8/22 - Hangover Cures

This has worked for me as I get older. I used to dislike getting real drunk because my headaches would just get worse all day (the day after) until I got to sleep again. Drink water with electrolytes and try this.

    Take n-acetylcysteine supplements
(at least 200 mg) a half hour before your first drink. NAC is known to reduce acetaldehyde toxicity and increase glutathione, and, since acetaldehyde toxicity represents a massive contribution to the hangover effects, it appears to be an effective way to combat hangovers. It’s even more effective when combined with thiamine (Vitamin B1). In fact, one of the more popular “hangover pills” uses both NAC and thiamine as its active ingredients. I’ve never tried it myself, but it fetches some impressive Amazon reviews.

One of my college roomates swore by the "Wake and Bake" as a perfect hangover cure.

I usually went with 4 ibuprofen and some Mt Dew.

This sounds like fun, but I have a hard time maintaining a good stride when I'm in the fetal position

Hoiberg: I have a unique situation here. I grew up here. I went to college here. My family is close and my wife's family is close. I know everyone in the community and my family is very comfortable here. My daughter has dreamed about one thing and that's going to Iowa State. The NBA is great and I love the NBA, but I love Iowa State and the opportunity I have here. We've really built something special and I think we've got real momentum to keep it going even more.

awd4cy, I never used to get hangovers either. I'd say when I turned 25 I'd start getting a mild headache no matter if it were 1 or 4 drinks.

Drinking more booze will always cure a hangover.
I've found drinking a bunch of water and take a couple ibuprofen before bed works well for prevention.
Otherwise wake up, start drinking gatorade, do about half an hour of intense cardio, eat a big omelete covered in hot sauce. Wash that omelete down with Beam&coke, vodka tonics or red eyes.

Its a pretty normal herb. Walgreens, cvs, etc. I get it on Amazon. Be careful if you have allergy like hay fever, it might get you sniffles or whatever happens.

With this short notice I'd probably take the normal dose tonight (let's pretend 2 pills), again in the am (1 or 2), then regular that night (2). Its an herb so it's not like you'll OD. If there's side effects you'll just get them more, like hay fever symptoms.

Maybe I'll also add the reason I own this product is I give it to my dog. But I take this one when it benefits me.
