Not disagreeing with you on that point, but the preview is going to be primarily based on recent history and expectations for this year. A preview show isn't going to be a history of a team's accomplishments. My point was that the bottom feeders of the SEC in 2014 are getting a lot more air time than the bottom feeders of the Big 12. I get it though. You want people to watch...people want to hear about the good teams. You're also going to get a lot more eyeballs with discussion of a bottom feeder SEC team than a bottom feeder Big 12 team.

The OP's main point though was that if you're doing a "conference" preview, you should at least acknowledge all teams in the conference even if the air time isn't equal.

And if they did cover us, a bunch of people would then complain that the time wasn't equal, or that the coverage wasn't optimistic enough, or...you get the idea.

The only way to please everyone is for the football team to stop being mediocre and earn respect.

When we have a big12 network affiliated with espn you will like espn again. The problem is that espn knows the big12 has a good relationship with one of their competitors, FoxSports. Why would anyone expect espn to spend very much time pimping a product they don't have exclusivity with? You can argue the big ten network, but espn WANTS their audience. I agree with your general point. I'm only offering a reason from their perspective, or a possible one.
We should have been on there, with whatever it is they would plan to say. That's like real work, though, and these experts don't put in that kind of work.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

A big 12 preview show should at least say that we are going to help make someone else bowl eligible!

Example: A starting point would be to take a season like this, when ISU is an extreme afterthought, and go 4-5 in conference (at minimum) and win a bowl game. Then climb above expectations again the next season.

Do that at least two straight years. Watch the attention build from there.

Grate er great minds think a like...lol

I picked us at ISU to win four games this year also.

One down year in CPRs' tenure and all respect is lost. Go figure.

Don't matter! You're in the conference, a preview show should have included your team. You matter as much as any other team in the conference! Good luck this year!

lol. To get respect you actually need to have an up year. Music City Bowl blowout loses don't count! Do you wanna hear about Texas Tech and TCU in the basketball preview? Thats who we are in football.

You're making the mistake of thinking ESPN is a news network or has a mandate for fair and balanced coverage. ESPN has no such mandate. ESPN's goal is to attract viewers. Viewers want to talk about the top teams and the teams that are relevant on the national stage. ESPN is not contractually obligated to do a show about the Big 12 at all, and if they choose to produce such a show, they're allowed to fill it however they want. It's their airtime.

ESPN covers the NFL year-round. ESPN has beat Johnny Football to death. ESPN beat Tim Tebow to death. ESPN beat LeBron James to death. WHY? BECAUSE PEOPLE WATCH. Manziel, Tebow, LeBron, and NFL attract viewers.

You know what doesn't attract viewers? A 3-9 football team that's projecting to win 3-4 games again. A team that fails to get a first down half of their possessions. A team based out of a rural town of 50,000 people in a small state.

If Iowa State becomes relevant on a national stage and begins to play an exciting brand of football, the coverage will come.

Look at how Iowa State Men's Basketball has become a media darling. A dreamy, young coach with a great story and nickname. An exciting brand of basketball. A team that can win their conference. A team that could be a contender for a national title. We're rewarded with three, possibly four games on the biggest stage in college basketball.

Want more coverage for ISU football? Just win baby. ESPN doesn't owe us ****.

There are several flaws with this argument. First off, the Tier 1 (highest tier) rights to Big 12 Football belong to ABC, the corporate sibling of ESPN. Second off, ESPN has sub-licensed the cable rights (Tier 2) to several Big 12 Football games from FOX Sports 1. Yes, they made a deal together.

ESPN is a Tier 1 and a Tier 2 rightsholder to Big 12 Football (and Tier 3 rights for Texas). Don't try to make the argument they're not invested in Big 12 Football. They are heavily invested in Big 12 Football at all three Tiers of television coverage, including the right to most of the Tier 1 content (of which they sub-license some Tier 1 rights to the FOX broadcast network, again another deal together!).

As far as ESPN and FOX Sports being rivals, this is simply not true. If you follow any sort of Sports Business Journal, you'd realize that ESPN and FOX executives have a very close and friendly relationship -- sort of a "co-opetition", if you will. Yes, they compete in some spaces, but ESPN and FOX often work together and bid together on television packages... including... wait for it... Big 12 Football, PAC-12 Football, Big Ten sports in general, and ACC Basketball.

FOX and ESPN work together constantly, and the last thing ESPN is attempting to do is undermine the Big 12 out of some ******* match with FOX. Four out of the five conferences involve a collaborative FOX / ESPN effort.

ESPN didn't cover Iowa State Football because we're irrelevant. ESPN covers the Big 12 less THIS SEASON because we don't have a clear national title contender. Oklahoma and Baylor will both certainly lose at least one game along the way.

It is not difficult to see the College Football Playoff leaving both the Big 12 and Big Ten out this year. Florida State will easily run the table in the ACC, and if the SEC or PAC-12 gets two teams in (and that's a strong possibility), both the Big Ten and Big 12 get left out. I'd say that's the likeliest scenario.

BS, Oklahoma is a clear cut national favorite to be one of the four in the playoffs, in-spite of ESPN's efforts. ESPN is free to air whatever they want for the Big XII preview but I am free to watch FoxSports1 or Cyclones.TV and less of their network. They were fairly balanced in the old days when they really grew because they simply made reporting the news exciting. Now they just sell their book of business, so to speak.
