    No......not soon enough.

This is a truly CF thread:

    25% stat analysis
25% hope for the coming year
    25% "grumble, grumble, we suck"
25% tangentially related derailment (in this case, horse stories)

    I love it.

Nevermind, I did not realize Davis was still in college football, and there was no way we averaged more per play than UT did in 2010.

    First Halves Only

    Game R-Yd Ave
    UNI 11-132 12.0
    Iowa 28-106 3.8
    Tulsa 19-38 2.0
    Texas 10-58 5.8
    TTU 20-68 3.4
    Baylor 28-149 5.3
    OSU 17-107 6.3
    KSU 20-145 7.3
    TCU 18-59 3.3
    OU 18-66 3.7
    KU 25-153 6.1
    WVU 18-124 6.9
    Total 232-1205 5.2

Sadly the results point simply to a bad rush D and not a D getting tired as the game wears on.
Hard to say unless we knew how the second half went. The first half numbers look to be very Jekyl (Iowa, Tulsa, TTech, TCU, OU) and Hyde (UNI, KState, KU and WVU). Are the second half numbers the same? Or were they bad in all the games?

Feel free to compile them for yourself. It is good enough for me to know that the first half and full season averages were within a few tenths of each other (5.2 v 5.4) to know it wasn't simply due to the D fatiguing as the game wore on. That was my reason for looking at the first halves.

Really? I've been a fan my entire life. My parents went to ISU. I went to ISU. My kid is a freshman this year. My family has worked at ISU. I've had season tickets for various seasons in wrestling, basketball and football. From Orr to Hoiberg and Criner to Rhoads. So spare me the bandwagon crap comment.

Are we assuming you can only have physical deterioration in the second half or that physical fatigue is the only way a bad offense hurts the defense? Maybe our offense wore out our defense in the first-half too.

A limited depth defense that has to go right back on the field 83% of the time (when the national average is 58%) is going to be negatively impacted by their offense. There is the short-term physical fatigue, and there is little time for adjustments and a susceptibility to mental fatigue. Going 3 and out so often is likely pretty demoralizing to the entire team. Momentum is huge in football, and having to go right back out on the field is a disadvantage.

Good defenses often look bad in our league at times. You put a below average defense with an offense like ours, and they are going to look and awful.

Re: Blum Preview Column: The season of wait & see

Wow, what a great article Brent Blum!

I liked the fact that you stated factually how horrible we were last year and didn't try to sugarcoat it much at all. And yet, you left us all with a glimmer of hope yet for this season with the changes that have been made, and the "new" attitude around the football building.

What amazes me after reading that article is that we somehow managed to win 3 games. I'm not sure how we did it? Those have to be some of the worst possible stats a football team could have. Offensively, we were one of the worst teams in the country and had more 3 and outs than everyone else but one team in the nation. Ouch.

And defensively, we were just as bad. 112th against the run, giving up 230 yds per game on the ground at a 5.35 yds per rush clip. Another big ouch.

So we couldn't move the ball at all on offense and get 1st downs, much less points, AND defensively we just allowed teams to run it right down our throats. Not a good combination.

Looking at all of that, it's no wonder that CPR had to nearly clean house with his coaching staff. Almost makes you wonder if Wally shouldn't be on the hot seat as well? I know for some reason he's "untouchable", but you can't allow teams to push you around like that and survive as a DC very long either IMO.

Now do people understand why ISU is getting virtually no respect this year from anyone? Now do you realize why NDSU would be favored against us? I know it's a new year, but c'mon.... our DL was horrible last year and we've had a TON of losses there again going into this year...... including.... Irving, Coe, Kron, Luna (likely), Ayeni, etc.

I'm sticking with my prediction of 4 wins this year. That's what I've said since spring practice began I think. Anymore than 4 wins will be some VERY drastic improvement from the team we had a year ago IMO, when you look at just how bad we were statistically.

If there is one guy who is allowed a mulligan on the staff, it's Coach Burnham.
