When looking at old rosters and depth charts of our Defensive Line and comparing them, we need to look at where they are at during that period. Almost all of our players are better at the end of the year than at the beginning. Take McDonough for example. McDonough was not perceived to be an All Big 12 type player in the fall of his senior year prior to the season. But he played very well. Which changed all perceptions of what they were.

IMO, that is what will happen with this DL. As Blum pointed out in his article. We really don't know anything and will just have to wait and see.

    Nope. Coleman all the way!

False. People were predicting McDonough would have a very good senior year.

McDonough was not predicted to be FIRST Team All Big 12 his senior year........He had a GREAT season.....not just good or even very good. That was the point I was making, is that McDonough EXCEEDED the expectations for that season.

In his career, yes. This year, i'm leaning towards no.

Well he was predicted preseason 2nd team by Phil Steele so I think people expected a very good season for him.
And that was not the point of your previous post. You made it seem like he came out of no where to have this amazing season.

Honestly, it wouldn't totally shock me. Definitely the 3 TDs is in reach.

They aren't comparing careers. People on here have a serious issue comparing potential and current reality.

McDonough was expected to have a real good Sr. Year, just like people are expecting some guys now to do well. You can see potential, size, speed, strength, knowledge, and hard work from athletes before they play a game.

This is what some of our fans do not seem to get. Just because a guy was not great his Freshman or sophomore year, they are assuming that they were a complete miss and will never be any good. Heck, some of these guys were a lot better players at the end of the year than they were against UNI. I am not saying this is going to be a great defense, because it will not, but I don't think it will be the train wreck we should have all seen coming last year. There have been no desperate position changes to shore up the interior line this year, which tells me that Wally thinks he can defend with the guys in place. The defense may be short on experience, but they are not small or slow.

Mark it down now, this team will force more 3 and outs than last year's unit. Hopefully they will cause more TOs too. (Last year the DBs must have dropped 10 INTs that were right to them.) They will not be laying back in a bend don't break situation. Will they get burned, absolutely, but that is going to be better than getting ground into dust and still giving up the big plays.

Oh I know the defense will be better. And the offense WILL be A LOT better.

Last year almost everything went wrong. That is not common at all... It was the perfect storm of bad. And we still managed to somehow win three games, while losing 5 by only a TD or less with an awful schedule(hard, and bad bye weeks).

Bolded for emphasis. One more turnover a game last year could have made a big difference in a few games.

Re: Camp Insider: Mitchell Meyers earns starting DE spot

Positives - I'm buying in on our quality at DE. I expect it will greatly exceed prior years where our undersized guys couldn't hold the edge or create pressure. The bar is low, but I think they will be a solid competitive unit.

Negative is the interior. Jensen is not McDonough, not even close. He is getting props for being a returning starter, but he was starter but who was he playing ahead of? Woods and a freshman Cousins. I think that Cousins, as a RS fr was getting more 2nd half snaps vs WV.

I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst out of the interior.

i also think the LB's are being overestimated. Hopefully the benefit of your de's holding the edge will really help the lb's flow. Knott and Klein would have killed for this unit at de.
