This. From Mark's perspective it's possible that he expects his o-line to be the best in the conference and won't rest until they are. There's always room to improve, and in year one of Mangino the offense will probably be significantly better in mid-October than they are in week one. That's not necessarily the case with each football team.

Agree with this. Heck, I'd be happy if we consistently can open holes for Wimberly and Nealy. If they become the best in the league then so be it. One thing we should always have ( from recruiting in the Midwest) is a good OL at ISU.

    Agree.

After re-watching the Texas game today, I think this is going to be a year of what-ifs. Had we returned an improved Coe, Irving, and Kron to go with adding Juco's like Pierson, Taylor, and a healthy Ayeni, we would have had a decent group imo.

In the BIg 12 I would be more concerned with stopping the pass.

If you cannot stop the run because of your DLine, there is almost no chance you will stop the pass.

    Re: #1 Concern

Gentlemen, as a coach you always want to accentuate the positive traits of your talent, not over hype it.
If you sing their praises and tell them there awesome, if they get beat, then someone on the team is to blame because the coach told us we were awesome.
    Did he lie?
    We aren’t awesome?
I’m great it is you who isn’t awesome! (finger pointing)
Or maybe the coach isn’t that awesome!
Set the standards high but attainable, good is good, good is not awesome.
Every game day some ordinary players will turn in an extraordinary performance, if we can get three or four of these performances on each side of the ball per game we will become bowl bound.
Mangino is just keeping it real.
    Go Cyclones.

Geeeez.... I had forgotten all about Kron leaving too. Man, we've lost a ton off the DL.

I just hope Jensen, Cousin, Garcia, Aka, and others can do their jobs on the interior. I'm not as concerned with the DE position with Morrissey, Myers, Taylor, Pierson, etc.

It's early, but I was surprised and concerned to hear our offense did not score a TD on the defense. May just be how they were working the scrimmage.

LOL. Coe and Irving were still on the team when Pierson, Taylor, and Ayeni were signed.

    Re: #1 Concern

You guys are getting to wound up about a brand new system that is being taught to these guys. It's like having a kid learn to ride a bike when you take the training wheels off. Do you expect him to just take off and know how it works? Absolutely not! The kid knows the basics of the bike but when take off the training wheels, it's a whole new thing. Ok, so then why are you so worried about the O-line? they will have their hiccups and such but to just expect them to just blow everyone out of the water is like expecting a child to just know how ride a bike without training wheels, It just won't work. So just have some patience and let the boys go thru the growing pains. Mangino knows what to expect out of these boys and knows its going to take TIME.

    Re: #1 Concern

I'm taking a "wait and see" on the OL. My "#1 concern reamins the corner spot opposite Tribune, because I'm simply not sure of the talent there. My #2 would be the inexperience of the secondary, and defense in general. The OL is somewhere after that.

    Re: #1 Concern

No. 1 concern is the lack of experience and probably talent in the front 7 on D. Our first 3 games are against power running teams, so if we can't stop the run it'll get ugly early.
