I have an ed a5 and I love the sub. Too bad they went out of business and did it in a crappy way.

    Re: Home Theater Projector

My first projector was an Epson and I liked it. This time I bought a Panasonic and have no complaints with it either. My only problem is that I don't use the home theater nearly as much as I should. Although during nfl season I live down there.

Agreed, projectors or those giant 70+ TVs and large computer monitors are where 4k will really shine. A 4k 50" TV that you're sitting 10 feet away from probably isn't going to be that noticeable.

Until broadcasters make the huge investments into 4K, or hell even 8K technology, its only a novelty.

Meaning you think it will be a fad that doesn't last? If so I agree.

I disagree. 3D is more of a gimmick, not everyone likes it. 4k truly is just a larger, sharper image. Its definitely coming; I've seen estimates that 50% of North American households will have a 4K TV within the next 10 years. China is already broadcasting some 4k and Netflix, Amazon, etc are pushing to start streaming it soon.

One thing that will make the transition easier is that Hollywood already often records in 4k and the digital projectors in theaters are 4k. Makes easy transfers to home formats.

    Re: Home Theater Projector

There's no real point to 4K TV under 70". Projectors, yes, TV, no.

Unless you have a GIANT screen (projector), or you're incredibly close <5ft, your eye isn't going to resolve it.

The improvements in the 55-65" screen range that need to be made now are in areas other than resolution now.

    Re: Home Theater Projector

This thread is making me miss our theater room while on the road and when we sell our house. 106" screen with an Epson 6010 is what I have - love it. New place in Denver will have a theater room, just not right away (provided we officially custom build that is).

One item I am not seeing discussed here is the screen. That is a common mistake - forgetting the screen and going cheap on it. The screen is just as important as the projector - if not more.

There are some interesting threads on the merits of manufactured screens vs DIY screens over on AVS forums. A lot of those guys get very extreme in some of the tests they run. That said, a lot of the DIY screens appear to outperform a lot of the manufactured screens and for much less money. I am particularly interested in the spandex, acoustically-transparent screens.

I have a BenQ W1070, and couldn't be happier! I really have nothing to compare it to, but it's been great for me. I think I bought it around $750.

I couldn't be more happy with the Center Stage Seymour screen. It was pretty expensive, but totally worth it. Night and day above the Elite screen that came with my projector, in looks and quality.

    Gorm,
I agree that they are nice screens. They are pricey though. I am intending to do a spandex screen when I redo my basement (hopefully this fall). That is why I had all of the questions though.
