Re: 2014-15 WBB schedule is up

I agree with the need to give the Frosh, who are critical to our success, a chance to develop and for the team to jell. The conference season is long and a real meat grinder every year. Not many other conferences are like that. I'll be there for every game cheering them on even if they play a team made up of the complainers here.

Do you not understand the differences that these two teams face?

Volleyball can almost sleepwalk to a 3rd-place finish in the Big 12 every year. There isn't much depth in the league. Basketball, on the other hand, has to bust *** to finish in the top half.

Volleyball has two fewer conference games than basketball. They are also not saddled with playing Drake every year. This allows CJL to have a tougher non-conference schedule without as much risk.

Re: 2014-15 WBB schedule is up

I agree that we need to keep the schedule easier so that the incoming freshmen can get their feet wet and we don't schedule ourselves out of post season, but sometimes I find myself thinking that maybe the reason why we fell apart last year was because the girls weren't challenged during the non conference schedule. I like to see a relatively easy schedule, but I wouldn't mind seeing at least 1 or 2 middle of the pack schools in the schedule. I would like to see either Nebraska, Colorado, or Missouri at Hilton again during the non conference schedule. Give the girls at least a chance to play a somewhat challenging school, so they know how to play until the end. Just my thoughts, but no matter what I will be in the stands at almost every game.

Last year we were challenged early by a scrappy Auburn team on the road and somewhat by Iowa at home. You also have to remember last years team was flying high before losing Maddie.

Re: 2014-15 WBB schedule is up

I'm not going to second-guess it too much, since the formula has worked OK for Iowa State in the Fennelly era.

But if Hoiberg were to stay at ISU until 2030, had 14 NCAA tournament appearances, with 3 Sweet 16's and 2 Elite 8's, and I saw this non-conference schedule, I would ask, "What are you waiting for?"

Re: 2014-15 WBB schedule is up

We are starting to use the new players excuse every single year now for our TERRIBLE schedule.

Last year it was that pop and Anna were gone.
Year before, We lost Bolte - need to give the team time to find a different go to play maker.
Year before that, We lost Aus - need time to get players to jell with new PG.

It's just the same excuse EVERY single season.

Auburn was in a tournament. We are "complaining" about the home schedule.
Maddie was only averaging 10 mins, 1.9 points and 3 rebs a game. That was also against a TERRIBLE schedule. I would not say that they were flying high becauase of her.

Last 5 years of home non-con games:

    Win/Loss: 38-0
    Average win: 75-49
    Ranked opponents: 1

I know that it is never going to change - it is just frustrating that we as fans never get any games to be excited about in the non-con at home.

Ok, CrazyGreg, we will put you in charge of convincing good teams that they need to play us in Hilton. I'm willing to bet BF tried to add a couple more 40-100 rated teams, but couldn't get them to come.

Starting to use it? Like you said at the end, it's the same excuse every single season.
It seems like something to challenge the team a couple times would be a good idea, unless somehow the women's game doesn't factor in your strength of schedule at all.

Re: 2014-15 WBB schedule is up

There were comments on here regarding the easy UNI schedule and now I look at ours and it actually looks much easier. At least UNI has three schools that played in the Big Dance last season on their card. What is so wrong about using your non conference schedule to almost guarantee a shot at playing in the NCAA. Every season we play in a conference that would kill most teams and yet we are always in the mix for an invite to the party. If you don't like the easy wins and can't see why you drive to the game. Well then, don't go and give your tickets to some young kid who would be in heaven just to see the Twister Sisters play at Hilton even if it were against Grandview's junior varsity team.

I would bet that if BF would/could schedule some higher ranked teams for the pre-season and we lost half of the games. Then went just over 50% in conference games and did not make the big dance. The ones complaining about a week schedule would be on here complaining about how we needed some early wins.

Or noting that the team wasn't good enough for the tournament.
It's not like people are crying for UConn here. Just the occasional matchup that a WBB fan could get excited about, and something that gives the players a challenge to toughen up/sharpen up before conference play.

You must understand that expressing ANY dissatisfaction with the administration of the WBB program is pretty much blasphemy and you will be banished and stoned outside the city gates (as I have been). We must all be good Stepford Fans and be happy with every and all aspects of the program, always.

I'm sure someone will take your tickets off your hands if it's that much of a problem.
