Technically he could still be nominated and win this year, but it's very stupid that Jack Gleeson aka King Joffrey hasn't won an Emmy yet, let alone not even be nominated. Best bad guy on the TV screen ever.

Hope he changes his mind about quitting acting, he should be the Alan Rickman of the next generation of movie bad guys.

Count me in the crowd of not getting the whole J Law thing. She's not a bad actress but I don't get how she's won so many awards. I'm always aware that I'm watching Jennifer Lawrence, I'd compare her to Tom Cruise, not bad but I never forget it's Tom Cruise. I also don't get the whole Hunger Games phenomenon, it's an inferior concept/vehicle to even Twilight and Harry Potter, it's really been done before by a cult hit Japanese film, and a Steven King big budget hollywood adaptation, and then Snowpiercer comes along and presents a similar feel with drastically better creative direction and action sequences.

Gleeson was great, but Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series has a ridiculous amount of competition. Heck, you could nominate a handful of other people from just Game of Thrones besides Peter Dinklage who always gets the nod.

In terms of actors/actresses that have done great work and not once been nominated, my list includes:

Steve Buscemi (should have been nominated for supporting actor in Fargo)
Jennifer Jason Leigh (several but for a great little movie called Georgia)
    Donald Sutherland (several)
Marilyn Monroe (Some Like It Hot)
Richard Gere (don't really like him but a movie called Margin Call from a couple years ago is fantastic)
    Ewan McGregor
    Martin Sheen
    John Turturro
Buscemi didn't get a nomination for Fargo? Crazy.

Good point that there's a lot of competition, but we're talking about an award that thought the guy from House was the best actor on tv for like seven years in a row. The Oscars are actually the best award in entertainment for truly awarding excellence, even though they don't always get it right. A guy winning best actor that many times in a row for playing the same arrogant doctor over and over is a bad sign for the Emmys, especially given the actors HBO/Showtime have had those years.

Another actor who has been nominated but not in a while is Ryan Gosling. His roles are always varied and great. The academy has not given him a nod in a while because it seems to think he is too young, and is busy heaping praise on performances by older actors who have put in the time. Gosling deserved a nod for All Good Things, Drive, and Place Beyond the Pines, and didn't get a sniff.

The only thing about this that bothers me is they gave an Oscar to Jennifer Lawrence. Really? Sorry but her performance in silver linings playbook was solid but not spectacular. I look at young actresses who I think have doen at least as well, and I think Shailene Woodley for Fault in our Stars and the Descendants. And she was left off after both those performances.
Personally I think J. Law is fantastic. Should she have won for Silver Linings Playbook? Meh not sure. I personally would have given it to Riva for 'Amour'. However, J. Law DEFINITELY should have won for her first nomination in the incredible Winter's Bone. If you haven't seen it, do it. I would have picked her to win over the four others that year and that was a very talented lineup. Natalie Portman in Black Swan, Annette Bening in The Kids Are All Right, Nicole Kidman in Rabbit Hole (if you haven't seen it, it's great), and Michelle Williams in Blue Valentine.

Nope. Looking back at that year in movies, Fargo still stands out. McDormand of course won that year for her role...one of the greatest in the past few decades. Macy was deservedly nominated in supporting. It was up against English Patient, Shine, Secrets and Lies, and Jerry MacGuire for Best Pic. Fargo is the best of the lot in that group.

She was great in Silver Linings Playbook, but Bradley Cooper was by far better in my opinion.

I watched Silver Linings Playbook on a plane as it was something I probably would have never watched at any other time and was very impressed by the job Jennifer Lawrence did. Bradley Cooper was well.

He is so good on GOT. He brings so much depth to that character.

Re: Actors who should have been nominated for an Oscar but weren't

I hate watching a Movie where the first thing you say to yourself is "This actor is trying for an Oscar in this Movie". LIke when Sean Penn played a special needs guy. I could not think anything else. It made themovie tough to watch.

BTW the hunger Games has been done so many times. Pretty sure Ice T was in a similar movie at one point. It's basically the concept of hunting humans. You let them go, then hunt them down.

Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.
