For the 2003 first week, they did not lay over and rot like 2013 team did against UNI. The deep secondary was making the 2013 UNI tackles.

Will you guys quit acting like we've been having good QB play and benching the QB's for no reason? They were given plenty of time to get it together and were benched because of very poor play and/or injury. Sometimes they changed it up trying to get a spark.

It wasn't, hey incomplete pass next guy in... Or even an interception. It was consistent poor play.

You are right. The 2003 team laid over and rotted over the last 10 games of the year and did not win a conference game. ISU Cyclones scored a whopping 25 points in the last 5 games.

For the season ISU scored a whopping 174 points (65 points in the first 2 games) with opponents scoring 437 points. Over the last 10 games ISU scored 109 points while opponents scored 407 points.

I will take 2013 season and the loss to UNI over the 2003 season every time.

Just curious--did you ever see Archie Manning when he played for the Saints?

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.

Standing out is relative to competition not of actual talent.
Just one time, it would be nice for one of our quarterbacks to grab the job by its haunches and hump it into submission. I'm tired of this "neither one stands out" *********. They should try to be a little more like White Goodman and take the bull by the horns.

Yes, and the Saints weren't decent.

Sam is more dynamic with his ability to run, but I definitely want him to be more aggressive with his arm this season. If there was a season for it, this will be it with all the WRs we have.
I was under the impression that his injuries made him unable to properly set his feet and fully use his legs for his throws. In that case, I would hope he would be more conservative rather than throwing a weak ball into a tight window.

    The good news:
with better management (simpler offense, more rush game, better OL play) we could have better QB play than last year and a more successful offense, even if neither QB is a world-beater.

I'm sure Mangino will pick whichever one's strengths fits better into the offense he wants to run.
Agreed, you don't have to have an NFL caliber QB on a college team for the QB to be able to contribute to a successful team. Mark is just the man to make an adequate QB successful.

IMO, it is coming down to either Grant or Sam. I consider them to be viable QB's that we can win with. Contrast that with 2003 season. We were awful.

How would you like to choose from these QB's.

8 Austin Flynn QB 6-1 186 RFr. Deer Park, Texas (Deer Park)
16 Chris Love Jr. QB 6-5 214 Jr. Round Rock, Texas (Round Rock)
9 Waye Terry QB 6-3 207 Jr. Valley City, N.D. (Valley City)
3 Kyle Van Winkle QB 6-6 185 RFr. Roland, Iowa (Roland-Story)
Extra bummer: Waye Terry is a cool QB name.

Coaches lie, I have a feeling there is a clear #1, we just don't know it yet. I don't really need to know it for another 16 days as long as the team and coaches know who the man is.

I feel the same way. Believe it or not, I have trouble believing CPR tells us everything that happens within the program. I also have never believe Rohach, Richardson, or Lanning were all playing at an equivalent level despite the word "or" on the depth chart.

Heard a little different story from his Mom before the UNI game. She said Grant did hurt his hand in camp and didn't know how long into the season it would be before he could throw with no issues.

I do not doubt what you heard to be true. But, clearly, with as injured as Sam was during the Iowa game, it seemed Grant gave the impression to his family that felt he was in much better shape to play than Sam, but still was not given the opportunity.
