    Re: Windows Phones

I have been running Windows 8 for work practically since it came out. I had the same complaints about Windows 8 running on a non-touch screen. However, most of my complaints have been addressed in 8.1. Much more mouse and keyboard friendly.

    Re: Windows Phones

Messed with several in the store for a couple hours.

    Got the Lumia 1520.

I have the HTC One (M7) and was unhappy so I didn't want the M8. Galaxy S5 didn't impress me. LG G3 was awkward.

    Re: Windows Phones

Most people I know who have them say they're great phones but the app availability is very sub-par.

This. Everyone I know that has owned a windows phone has hated them. Even if if you do end up liking the phone itself the app availability comes way way short of what Android and Apple have to offer.

    Re: Windows Phones

I went through every app that I use regularly and found a Windows version or comparable (no gmail app obviously).

So that sealed the deal for me.

I have a Windows Phone - Nokia Lumia and love it. Doesn't have near the app availability, but it still has all the apps that I need/use frequently.

I bought a Windows Surface Pro 2 tablet and I love Windows 8.1. Everyone says that I shouldn't buy a Windows phone because other people all buy an iphone or an android but the Windows phone seems to make more sense:

-The phone would sync up with my Surface Pro 2 and I could share the OneDrive.
-The Nokia phone has the best camera of all smart phones.
-I already know the Windows 8.1 interface and really like it.
-All apps I want for my phone are available in the Windows Phone.

The popularity issue is a concern for me as I don't want to go down a dead end but Windows Phone does have the strength of Microsoft behind it.

The phone stores are quick to direct you away from a Windows Phone but it sure makes sense to me. Maybe I'll have to go against the tide and give one a try.

Even if the phones die, you still have the desktop world to back you up. Phone stores will always try to sell you what will make them more money, windows phones arent a top seller so they dont push it. Im an iPhone guy, but its mostly because I have already invested so much in the apple ecosystem. Im glad you chose what was right for you, thats very important. Some folks just buy whatever is pushed or popular and dont think about if it fits who they are/what they want to do.
