Re: Xbox 360 v xbox one

The upside to the 360 is the console is pretty cheap, the library is huge and the games can be had for not much money in most cases by buying used. I think the 8 year old would probably get more enjoyment out of the 360 just because there would be so many more games that he could actually play.

The Xbox1 and the PS4 are still very early in their life cycle so the games just aren't there yet, there are some great ones, but there's just not a huge catalog yet. If you don't care about being on the cutting edge and just want a good system with good games I'd get the 360 for him.

If anything, console lifespans are getting longer. The 360/PS3 came out around 2005/2006, so about a ten year lifespan. The fact that better technology exists really doesn't change much; that has always been the case.

I agree, and developers would not like the platforms changing that quickly. Chasing technology would be a bad business model.

To the OP though, I would ask what type of games your son likes? Are there particular games he's really excited about? I would echo what other people have said, I have a One and its great, but there aren't a ton of games out yet. That will change a lot in the next 12 months.

Re: Xbox 360 v xbox one

You guys are missing the fact that the technology has moved from proprietary PowerPC architectures (not compatible with PC, higher r&d costs) to x86-64 PC architectures. The difference between developing for the respective Playstation and Xbox consoles has never been smaller. Also, developers will max out the power of this generation's hardware much faster due to the fact that they are all closer in design.

This is another reason the Wiiu is being abandoned. It is still on an IBM PowerPC architecture, and the game dev. companies are just deciding not to deal with it. This is one reason among many.

Re: Xbox 360 v xbox one

Get the 360. Ton of games avail and a lot cheaper. If in two years you find you used it a lot go out and buy the One. Game catalog will have caught up and it'll be cheaper by then.

For an 8 year old the Xbox 360 would be fine. Although, I'm sure this isn't news to you, it probably wouldn't be long before he is bugging you for an Xbox One to keep up with his friends.

Re: Xbox 360 v xbox one

While I really enjoy my Xbox One, the 360 might be the way to go. There are so many great games from last generation that you can pick up cheap now. It would take years for your son to play through that library of games. That said, for the older crowd the XB1 already has a decent stable of games. Titanfall has consumed many hours of my time. However it is also on the 360.

The obvious solution is to just be the cool dad and buy both, honestly though my son who is 7 gets more enjoyment out of the Wii-U at this point, definitely more than the PS4.

Its okay. I found out today that the "campaign" is weak. I was expecting an awesome single player campaign and all it is is online with other people doing regular multiplayer modes.
