Have their been any continuing problems with uncontrollable riots that make national news after ISU sporting events?
VEISHEA had its second, third, fourth, and fifth chances. What do you expect the University to do? It was really an easy decision for them.

I'll ask again: have you ever tried to rapidly escape a large crowd? Were you present for any of the VEISHEA riots? Have you ever exited a bar, anywhere, and found yourself smack dab in the middle of a riot? Unless you can answer "yes" to any of these questions, I don't see how you can so inflexibly conclude that so many people are at fault.

For what it's worth, google the phrase "what to do in a riot". You'll find a lot of varied and contradictory advice...some say GTFO as fast as you can, some say to stay put and wait for law enforcement to clear the area and guarantee you a safe exit. Even if there is a "standard operating procedure" for what to do in a riot, I don't know how you fault people for not knowing what it is.
Either you are arguing just to argue or you seriously lack common sense. You seriously think kids "in the middle of the riot" were desperately trying to escape!? That's complete BS, and I think you know it. They were drunk and they were having fun being lunatics.

If, hypothetically speaking, someone was in the middle of the crowd who didn't want to be there then I'm sure they knew exactly what they needed to do. Get out. Leave. You act like there should be some handbook on reacting to a riot. It isn't neurosurgery. Use your legs to exit the crowd of maniacs. It isn't near as complicated as you're trying to make it. You're either being overly sympathetic or super dramatic.

"Hey buddy, do you want to drive 3 hours for a really bad parade?...... Yeah didn't think so."
This was what I was hoping for. Hold the parade, etc. on Saturday and wrap everything up by mid-afternoon so there's nothing taking place into the evening. I know students would probably still bullseye that weekend for partying but you'd have to think it would curb things during the week.

There is already a WEishea, as if he could stop it any time soon.

Not at all. I might be one of the few that actually like the university sanctioned events. I liked taking my kids to the parade and to the department demonstrations. I was never into the drinking all day part even when I was attending ISU.

I don't either, my initial reaction as an alum when I heard about this was being really embarassed that the one time ISU makes national news(non-sports related) in the last year was for this.

Yep. Hearing from Ames people that he is replacing the oldtimers with His Yes Men. Not a good thing in my opinion.

I don't think that's really how it usually works for state employees.
