    Re: Big 12/Big Monday Schedule

That's pretty impressive. Only 3 of the ACC matchups are between two teams both ranked preseason. 6 (and potentially 7) Big 12 games are between two ranked teams.

Am I biased when I look at that and think we're providing a much stronger Big Monday schedule than the ACC?

Maybe, but you're right. Their slate of games stinks.

-sigh- People will always find something to complain about. This is a great era in Cyclone basketball, embrace the good times.

Just goes to show the advantages of a smaller round-robin conference.

Our conference's slate is terribly dependent on Iowa State, Kansas, and Oklahoma being good. The Big 12 has had some stinker Big Monday games over the years, as teams expected to be good have fallen off, which happens. I recall, off the top of my head, the Big 12 going heavy on West Virginia in their first year in the league, Kansas State in 2011 when they were preseason Top 10, and Oklahoma State last year, each of which produced some unforeseen snoozers.

I don't know if that's the case for this. They have plenty of marquee matchups to schedule. There's no reason for Georgia Tech to show up, as much as I traditionally liked Georgia Tech.
Even with the larger conference, it's still possible to arrange the games to have the best matchups on Big Monday.

I would bet you are right that the powers that be have those 3 ciricled at this point since the Big Monday schedule is out. My guess is that CBS would lean towards Texas at KU (Allen Fieldhouse, should be 2 highly rated good teams, sounds like OSU last year). Then it becomes does ESPN want to set up shop in Ames or Austin. Bias in me says Ames because if its about environment Hilton wins hands down.

Can't argue with any of the 3 choices though... all should be tremendous games.

I laughed when I read this:

"Virginia is also scheduled against Pittsburgh on February 16, as part of Rivalry Week"

If your marquee billing--during Rivalry Week--is two snoozer teams that have only played 11 times in history...woof, that stinks.

    Re: Big 12/Big Monday Schedule

This is great. And I think having 3 weeks in a row is an amazing opportunity for more national exposure. Can't wait to hear Fran Fraschilla continue to give Fred and the guys a tongue bath on TV like he usually does. We may need to add "Big 12 Tournament Champs", "Niang's broken foot" and "Niang getting buff" to our ISU gamewatch BINGO cards.

"I watch the Cyclone players and they look like guys who grew up fighting for everything they got, on and off the court. In a word, men. I look at the Iowa players and I assume when they were kids they played soccer in leagues that didn't keep score to avoid hurting anyone's feelings. There is not one single leader on this team. It's a group of high school friends playing a pickup game at the YMCA and maybe they will keep score, maybe not, because they are just happy to be there."

It is just one more obstacle to account for. I am specifically talking about going on the road for a Monday game. The home team has a huge advantage in those situations. Since we are on the road for two of the three scheduled, the schedule does us no favor.

Really isn't 3 games in a row the IDEAL way to do a bunch of Big Monday games. All the naysayers say it's a disadvantage because it throws the team of off their routine, but now that will basically BE the routine for ISU in February.

Dumb question: Is this just the release of the B12 and ACC schedule at the moment, or does the B10 not play Big Monday games?

    Big Monday is an ACC/Big 12 Double-header. Used to be a Big East/Big 12 double-header pre-realignment.
