Re: Stuff you want to see this year

I want to see a few of the young/new guys on defense show that the talent level is actually picking up. Some combination of Cotton-Moya, Mutcherson, Tribune, Meyers, Madison, new Jucos.

A QB to step up and be the man.

A few big hits against Texas. Too bad Mike Davis is gone.

Re: Stuff you want to see this year

It really does come down to me a statistically Top 5 in conference total offense. A lot a things I'd like to see to get there make that happen:
confident starting QB (Sammy vs. KU 2 years ago & Rohach last year KU&WVU)
healthy cohesive O line (same starters throughout the season, subs and felt need be, not out of necessity)
EJ Bibbs being as hyped (prob easiest to come true)
WR's besides Q become known consistent quantities
Wimberly & Nealy combine for more that 1,500 yards on the ground
Less than 2 turnovers max per game (preferably never more than 1)
    No penalties on 1st down

If this ever happens I've got minimal worries that the D can hold up and keep us in the game.

    Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
    'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town'

I suppose if we get some positive results from it then that will change. Also it's a little better since Coach Rhoads isn't stuffing "no huddle" and "fast tempo" quotes down my throat so far.

Re: Stuff you want to see this year

Mine are kind of specific but if they happened I would view them as a sign of our progress on offense

    1. Win an offensive shoot-out. The closest I can think of is the Tech game in '10, we won 52-38 but it felt closer than that in the end. If we can show that we can pure-and-simple out score someone on their best day, that would be incredible.

    2. Step on someone's throat who isn't named KU. I want to beat someone down, bad. Like '11 Tech game that ended 41-7. I'm tired of us calling of the dogs in wins so the other coach/team/fans/whomever doesn't feel bad. This is big boy **** here, let's kick someone's *** big.

    Healthy players.
    More sacks
    Opposing quarterbacks getting blown up
The ball travelling more than 5 yards in the air on a pass play
    Less 3 and outs

And solid special teams. Long kick-off returns after a score are so demoralizing.

Hoiberg: I have a unique situation here. I grew up here. I went to college here. My family is close and my wife's family is close. I know everyone in the community and my family is very comfortable here. My daughter has dreamed about one thing and that's going to Iowa State. The NBA is great and I love the NBA, but I love Iowa State and the opportunity I have here. We've really built something special and I think we've got real momentum to keep it going even more.

Would "more points on our side of the scoreboard" be too generalized?

It's still ok to step on KU's throat, though.

One starting QB throughout the entire season, with reps given to the others as needed.
No embarrassments like Baylor last year.
6 wins, since I am expecting only 2-3. Would love to be wrong.

    Score on first possession.

I thought I saw a stat that ISU punted or turned it over on every first possession they had last year. (hopefully I didn't just make that up)

To compete! leaving it all on the field and know that they gave 110% on the field. That is what I love to see winning or losing!

I wonder how much better we would be if we had 1 QB take every meaningful snap this season. Quit splitting reps and putting them in dangerous situations they could get injured.

Anything but our offensive coordinator showing our QB's and RB's clips of SportsCenter highlights, while poking them with a stick saying "You see here boy, you have to do what they do".
