It's weird at first. Mostly just because you occasionally realize, "Oh, ****, no check this week!" Pretty soon you come to grips with that. It was easier for me since I do get a pension, so there is SOME money coming in at a regular interval.

The best thing is when you wake up you wake up. I hated, hated HATED being woken up by an alarm clock and knowing I HAD TO get up. Now I can either get up when I wake up or roll over and rest some more; which is wonderful these last few days when it is cool in the morning.

Either moving to Moline for a job with good ol' JD or I have an interview tomorrow with a Prof @ University of Kentucky for a GA in Soil Science down there. Should I give up a 50k+ job for 2 more years of college??

If that 2 more years will get you a nice bump up the pay scale or closer to doing what you love, go for it. Money comes and goes. Do as much school as possible when you're young and have no financial responsibilities. If you don't it only gets harder to go back and do it. If I won the lottery, I'd quit my job and go back to school part time and get every degree that I found interesting.

I am constantly reminded of a saying that my father told me: "Assume that about 25% of the people in the world are idiots, which means that 25% of the world should disagree with your opinion if you're on the right track. If the idiots agree with you then there might be a problem with what you're thinking." The numbers fluctuate based on the audience but the concept remains the same.

Tore my 3rd ACL... The last fix lasted about 20 years. I seam to tear one every 10 years I guess.

First ACL was in 8th grade basketball. (left knee)
2nd was playing a game of racquetball at ISU (right knee)
3rd... (left) was trying to push the effing wheel-o-death (merry-go-round) to warp speed to give my wife and kids a thrill... My 3 year old daughter shouted out "KARMA!" when I went down.

    Solution:

Hoiberg: I have a unique situation here. I grew up here. I went to college here. My family is close and my wife's family is close. I know everyone in the community and my family is very comfortable here. My daughter has dreamed about one thing and that's going to Iowa State. The NBA is great and I love the NBA, but I love Iowa State and the opportunity I have here. We've really built something special and I think we've got real momentum to keep it going even more.

You should see if your surgeon has a punch card program, like a "Buy Three, Get One Free" or something.

Seriously... Too bad I'm doing 3 different surgeons. (Packers team guy, Greenwald in Ames (isu guy), and this guy is the twins guy).

My mom has lived with a torn ACL (never repaired) since she was in high school. She even coached volleyball for 20 years (and was a Phys Ed teacher before that).

One of my buddies did that and made it 4-5 years while steadily gaining weight, but trying to do all of the weekend warrior/sports leagues. He now has a torn patella tendon in the other knee to contend with. I don't think he' ever admit it, but he should've just fixed the first one right away, which sucks for him in hindsight.
