With the level of talent (and, often, experience) that Hoiberg and the rest of the staff bring in on a yearly basis, I have absolutely no problem with them using a couple of scholarships on relatively unknown, high risk (talent-wise) players. It's not like Hoiberg plays the entire bench, and for this year (and next) there were already pretty solid backups at each position before Tsalmpouris signed.

Not necessarily. There's the benefit of practicing with a team in an environment that is getting the players ready for the next opponent. Also, there's the benefit of getting confidence from just playing on the national team. He's also getting some real game experience, although it is limited minutes.

So, I don't think anyone can unequivocally say which would be more beneficial for his progress.

This says next to nothing about what we can expect long term , and short term, we're stacked. I'm looking forward to seeing what Fred can do with him.

    Today's line: Started the game, played first 7 minutes and didn't come back in. 2/3 2pt, 0/1 3pt, 1 foul, -3 +/-, in a 69-74 loss to Serbia.

I'm pretty sure I had a started-the-game-and-played-so-bad-I-never-got-back-in game in high school. Those aren't fun.

There's some video from some of these games

Here's a nice stretch from Tsalmpouris from Game One, where he grabs a defensive rebound, an offensive rebound tip-in on offense, and then blocks a shot on the other end:

Here's his six minutes of playing time from Game Three, in which he picks up a couple of assists.

Just hit another 3. Now 4/4 from downtown, 16 pts in 15 min so far.

“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.”

"I hope to coach here until I retire," Hoiberg said.
