I've had cheese balls from the OP that were still hard and frozen in the center. Pizza isn't bad, though

This is a "yes but" to me. I think they'd do well in Campustown with students, but they're making it so a large portion of the population of Ames won't go there just because it's inconvenient and difficult to park, etc. They'd have no customers during the summer.

except, they would cut out half their prospective consumer base because many non-students don't want to go to campus to eat. The success of the campustown revitalization project is far from a sure thing. Chains like Pepperjax aren't looking for risk when they put in new locations. They do their homework and go with the safe bet. That's why BW3, Chipotle, PepperJax, Texas Roadhouse, Noodles & Co, etc. are all located on South Duff. That's where the consumers are in Ames. Students will still come to South Duff to get a meal, but non-students are less likely to go to campustown. It's a no-brainer for these chains.

I'm sure some auto parts store thought long and hard about moving in there, after all Ames IA is the auto parts mecca it seems.

I'm kind if amazed that Black Market Pizza has so little recognition in here. We've been going there since it opened and think it's great pizza - different that what is sold in Ames. Louie's Facorite on sweet potato crust!!

I really like the OP in CF for the food and the environment is good. The one in Clive has good pizza but my god that place is loud.

Agree, if I'm in Ames and I want pizza I go to Black Market because they are so unique. I don't think it's something I would want all the time but the reuben pizza is excellent.

“I came to Ames because the univeristy draws me in,” Stedman said. “It’s an under-served community.”
The first The Other Place opened in 1970 on “the hill” of College Street in Cedar Falls, according to the company’s website.
It started as a college pub that served and delivered pizza. It has since become “a memorable part of the college experience” for many Univeristy of Northern Iowa students and will hopefully become a part of student life here in Ames, Stedman said."

I've had Pizza Pit Pizza since the late 80's. Never had a pizza that was greasy. Pizza Hut on the other hand, way too much grease. Kids like Pizza Hut for some reason, I can't stand it.

Well....when you're dealing in the black market, a low profile is mostly likely desired and by design.

I like Black Market, Chicago style with home made sausage and black olives on sweet potato crust is my favorite.

Re: The Other Place in Ames

Black market is way too pricey. I like the Reuben pizza but cannot afford it because I have a case of the poors.

Also, their Chicago style pizza isn't as chicago-y as they try to tell you.

I can go to Jeffs and get way more food for half of the price (when I get a special). I leave there feeling full and always have leftovers to freeze, but at black market I spend $40 and still feel hungry.
