Or the people prediction 7-5 are putting ZERO emphasis on all of what you said.

No. Last year folks were expecting 6-7 wins, not 3-4. Pretty big difference IMO.

I think 5-7 was a fairly common prediction. Many thought our defense would be down a lot.

Not sure why, but my favorite part of this post is that you decided to abbreviate the word "average" for absolutely no reason.

Re: Iowa State 9th in preseason media poll

Last year was an absolute train wreck with all of the injuries on offense and all of the new faces on defense. I don't think ISU will be great, but I do expect the team to have a couple surprise wins and finish with 5-6 wins. Last year there were several games where just a little more offense or defense would have turned the tide for the good guys.

Not looking forward to the OU or Baylor games.

I also feel like we are possibly in for a surprise, I am cautiously optimistic this year, obviously I am not picking them to win 10 games, but I am also not thinking only winning 2-3 either. Somewhere in the 5-7 win range which if also competitive in the losses it would be a breath of fresh air. We could possibly finish 6th in the conference ahead of KU, Ttech, TCU, and West Virginia. I'd be happy with that.

Is there any place we can get the list of media who vote in this poll so we can begin the latest round of boycotts?

This is my feeling as well. ISU hung around in a few games, which has become pretty typical of PR coached teams. We haven't quite gotten over the hump of closing those games out and/or stealing one but this year gives me some hope that if we hang around in a game like TCU & Texas Tech games last year, with a guy like Mangino in charge of the offense, we might just be able to.

Then again, we have no real proof of what Mangino can or will do with our offense/players but I do know that, even at this point, I would take Mangino 10 times out of 10 over Mess in a close game.

Auburn won the NC because they had Cam Newton for 1 year. Thats why.

Did the player development just start and the redshirts are just going to start making an impact this year? Last year had "player development" and redshirts too.

I think it will take 6 or 7 games alone to get used to the new offense.
This is year is a punt for me.. New coaches always take awhile to get settled in.

Hopefully, our o-line looks a bit chunkier this year. Slim and sleek is not the way an offensive lineman needs to look. That would be a step in the right direction if you ask me.

Will see what the offense does against NDSU, if we manage to put 40 plus my optimism will grow, if we score 20 or less, put me down for 3-9.

Probably shouldn't provide reasons on the poll as to why vote one way or the other.

I voted that being picked 9th is low, but not necessarily for the reason(s) provided.

I voted that 9th is low because I think we have, at least, the 8th best team in the conference. We should finish ahead of KU and WV and we have a decent shot against KSU and Texas Tech. This year coaching is expected to be the difference. I attribute the offensive ineptitude last season primarily to coaching, specifically the offense position coaches. I don't think the coaches worked together as a team and that translated to the gridiron.

At least they've learned to stop picking Weiss not last, can't complain when we've been 7th even in our bowl seasons.
