    Re: New Movie - Lucy

This movie appears to borrow at least some of its story from the Japanese anime / manga Elfen Lied. Heck the main character's name in the anime is named Lucy, which is the title of the movie. I am reluctant to see this film because of this.

This movie appears to take place in "our world". I would expect a fairly realistic approach to the plot. I can accept the 10% brain usage plot mechanic - even though it's not all that interesting - but they lost me when she became telekinetic in the preview. That's unrealistic in "our world".

On the other hand, Star Wars is an excellent premise for a movie, and it takes place in a universe where galactic technology and "the force" simply exist. Who are we to say they're not believable? :)

edit: of course, the movie might still be really good. But I get where the detractors are coming from. It's just not an interesting premise for a move.

    Re: New Movie - Lucy

It's a very strange premise for a movie, especially when most people know the 10% is a myth. The trailer struck me as a money grab, put her and Morgan Freeman in a movie and blow a few things up = $$$.

There's a couple of these every summer where I can't believe the huge names they got for what looks like a terrible movie.

I'm kind of with him on this one though. When you speak directly about human physiology, it does kind of remove you from the movie a bit. I think they could have done a much better job explaining it. Maybe like saying 10% of your brains potential or something. It's almost like saying, "Humans only use 50% of their arms. The other two just go to waste."

Maybe you people think the 10% thing is a myth because you're only using 10% of your brains.

This is where the previews lost me as well. Even if you accept the premise that you only use 10% of your brain, I can't imagine that accessing the other 90% allows you to magnetize things, and stop bullets, and use some unknown force to throw people aside as the previews appear to suggest.

Since the hunger games were a total ripoff of manga/Japanese film the same way this might be an epic hit.

Which is completely unacceptable. Now excuse me while I go see a movie about genetically altered apes organizing and taking over the human race.

(at the risk of engaging people who just want to troll)

Everyone understands that movies aren't documentaries, thanks to the message board geniuses for that "revelation". But if the only change you're going to make to your alternate reality is pretending this old myth is actually true, then that's a really lame basis for a movie. If they've made a more intresting world they've done a terrible job showing it in the trailer.
