It's obviously Fred for us. And Fred would be the top choice of almost every college if they were looking for a new one.

Re: Pick a coach to build your program for the next 5-7 years

Are we assuming this is for Iowa State, or is it just some generic program? Because Drake, Harvard, Iowa State, and Kentucky are probably all going to pick different coaches. If it's for Iowa State, there's a blatantly obvious winner here.

Re: Pick a coach to build your program for the next 5-7 years

Since this is a topic on an ISU message board asking about your team, it's clearly Fred. He wants to be here and he's succeeding. You can't say that about any other coach, although Hornacek could've fit this description as well if we had hired him.

Had this convo with others on another board and I feel like Hoiberg isn't being listed as high as he should coming in around 10 mostly or not at all.

Coaches I'd put ahead of him for sure: Cal, Self, Donovan and Sean Miller. Beyond these 4, the mayor would be my next pick. Back me up on this CF
Here's a tip super cat. If you want an answer besides Fred hoiberg, start your thread in college sports. Not men's basketball. And **** Lute Olesen.

Re: Pick a coach to build your program for the next 5-7 years

If I was lets say WVU and I could hire any coach in the country (as a brand new coach. I would hire Hoiberg in a heart beat, Self would be really close too (I could make an argument for either, if legacy was a factor I would certainly take Self). Cal may be more successful faster but I wouldnt want the cheating legacy or the risk involved. If Pitinos and Coach K had no legacy I dont think they could do today at their age what they built 30 years ago. Hoiberg and Self are the Pitino and coach K of this generation of Coaches imo. Now football, I love Rhoads and love him for ISU but he wouldnt make my top 50 list (just to show my blinders arent on).

I know we all love to rip on Drew, but people forget where Baylor was before he was there

Heard it here first.
Yeah, you're the FIRST person on this site to claim that Hoiberg will land a five star after this year... BAH! This must be your first day here.
