Re: Kevin Love Trade Scenario (Poll)

I also think Minnesota could wind up over-playing their hand if they aren't careful. It's no secret they aren't in a great position when it comes to a trade. Having Love puting it out there that he wont resign really damages any leverage they have. Teams know that they can threaten to walk away and just let them get nothing in return for Love when he leaves in free agency. If anyone knows something about that, it's the Cavs.

So what's the worst case if they overplay their hand and get nothing in return? They are terrible in 2015-16 and get a really high draft pick that year? Is that actually much worse than getting Waiters and Bennett and a couple mid-late first round picks this year and winning a few more games but still missing the playoffs?

I just don't see the risk in holding out for a great offer, this isn't Denver or Orlando or Cleveland where you've consistently been a playoff team with your star and don't want to fall off. If I'm close to making the playoffs this year with Love come trade deadline, unless I'm blown away by an offer, I'll keep him and try to make a run.

But they won't be close to making the playoffs. I think people learned a lot from the Lebron situation, and that was one where he appeared to legitimately consider returning to Cleveland. I guess it boils down to what your organizational goals are. If you are content with keeping Love this year where your ceiling is probably 6-7 place in the Western Conference and maybe a first round playoff win and then losing Love after that, that's fine. If the goal is creating a championship contender they can't afford to get nothing for their only asset (Love). They need to stockpile young talent and draft picks and hope they develop.

Re: Kevin Love Trade Scenario (Poll)

The stance of Minnesota fans who would rather shoot for an 8 seed and get nothing for Love than gain considerable assets perplexes me. Maybe they're just following their GM's lead. He is talking tough because he has to. I'd be absolutely shocked if he risks getting nothing for Love.

The risk to me is if MIN plays bad and has no playoff shot early on. The fans are going to be restless and pressure will mount to move Love. Fans are already tired of him and ****** he's leaving.

Cleveland players well only become more valuable as the first half of the season is played. LeBron will raise everyone's level of play.

Just to reiterate, Love is far better than Wiggins. However, nobody has ever, ever gotten a player like Wiggins in a trade like this. There is no historical precedent for it.

If they do NOT trade Love, they have nothing after this year but their one pick for be bad. If they DO trade Love, they have their one trade for being bad (which they'll be if they trade Love for virtually anyone) PLUS they'll have Waiters and Bennett (who are both better than other players on the Minny roster) PLUS they'll have additional draft picks that can be used to replace some more of the crummy players they have. It's simple math.

That's because you keep overestimating the quality of the assets you think Cleveland will give up. To me Waiters, Bennett mid-late first round picks are just stuff. There's not a piece in there that gets you significantly closer to making the playoffs. This is a franchise that hasn't made the playoffs in a decade, this is probably their best shot since 2004-05 and you're going to bail on that to get some "stuff" back.

They don't have a pick this year, and if I'm really trying to rebuild I want to be terrible and get a high pick in the 2015-16 draft. Winning 25 games with Waiters and Bennett instead of 20 without them does nothing for me. The only way the Timberwolves are ever going to be good is through landing a stud with a high lottery pick.

Re: Kevin Love Trade Scenario (Poll)

Plus assuming Love likes money they still have some leverage after the season is over too, they can work out a trade where Love accepts his player option and they transfer his bird rights so he can get the higher max contract when he resigns with whatever team he's traded too.

That only matters if you count evidence.

It's amazing how this poll changed. It was like 21-17 in favor of trading Wiggins and now it is 52-23.
