    20. Nearly every single person (99 percent!) in Iowa can read—and with impressive numbers like that, Iowa easily has the highest literacy rate in the nation.

That can't be true. Hawk fans make up more than 1% of the population.

I laughed at that one too.

Edit. This also made me think of times Iowa fans make fun of ISU for being the Cyclones with a bird mascot. My response is Iowa is the Hawkeyes with a bird mascot. Most have no clue at the point I'm getting at. Even had a couple say a Hawkeye is a bird!!!!!

So much this...Amazing how we get the "your mascot doesn't make sense"...and in the end, once you actually know the histories, Cy has much more reason for being a cardinal than Herky does being a bird.

And I think the American Gothic tribute shed on 30 is West of Mt. Vernon, not East.

Errors abound. Is no one else perfect?

No matter what, I could NEVER cheer for Dirt and Urine.

Yikes. That's the thing with the internet era, any person with a keyboard can widely disseminate their thoughts and opinions (and disguise them as facts). I hope the younger generation is discerning in their consumption of media. It's always important to look at the source, the source behind the source, and so forth. It's discouraging sometimes, but we live in the information age, where power is wielded by controlling the dissemination of media. And, often, the untruth becomes truth if said over and over again (c.f. Bush, 2003 WMDs). Perception becomes reality.

Also, I hope people will see these posts before reading the list and not give any credibility to it. Don't even click on it.

Thanks for indulging in my rant.

Too many errors! Terrible list. Some is ok. But they did.t get the facts right.

That is awful. I don't expect the author to have necessarily been to Iowa before, but she should have at least read about it before

Anyway here's two that I like:

Iowa Gold Rush: Iowa has Gold? Yes! http://www.iowagold.com/iowagoldpage...here_to_go.htm
There was also a fake Gold Rush back in the 1800's to attract settlers to the territory. The perpetrators were taken to task when the truth came out. Wish i could find this on the internet.

Sullivan Line: Bet you never heard of the Sullivan Line http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sullivan_Line and how it came to shape Iowa's southern border.
Yep, actually have heard about it. I also know about the Half-Breed tract and the Iowa v. Missouri Supreme Court decision, etc.

    Good stuff.

    28. Iowa actually has an island—Sabula—which has 576 inhabitants and is a popular summer beach destination for Chicagoans.
I drove through Sabula today on the way home from a wedding, and that's probably the last island I would ever go to, and I seriously doubt people from Chicago would be caught dead there. Maybe it's different without the massive flooding though.
