Not before 8am and not after dark.

Though snowblower, for some reason, I feel is fair game at any hour.

You have to get to work. If it needs it, I am snowblowing at 6am

    my opinion?

    Re: Mowing the Lawn

9AM until dark, which could push a touch beyond 9PM during the summer but would obviously be earlier during the school year.

Nobody on my street owns a snowblower, so I don't have any direct observations there, but I would tend to agree that you have to clear it to get to work, so it is pretty much fair game whenever.

    Re: Mowing the Lawn

I snow blow or shovel as soon as I get up (5:30 - 6:00 am) on weekdays. It's like a neighborhood party.

Snowblower is fair game since it's best to do it before you drive over it and pack it all down.

    Re: Mowing the Lawn

Mowing, after 10:00 am so grass is dry and not after 7:00 pm. My neighbor likes to mow right at dusk so people don't see him.

Snowblowing is before I need to leave so as to not pack it down.

    Re: Mowing the Lawn

I typically consult the weather temperature forecast and schedule my mowing for the hottest part of the day. It's my nod to mad dogs and Englishmen. Looks like I'll mow around 3 pm today.

My mini yard takes all of 15 minutes to mow but the upkeep on all of the rest (shrubs, ground covers, perennials) more than eats up the time saved.

    Re: Mowing the Lawn

Try to never do it before 9am. I don't have lights on my mower so can't mow past sundown. I have two neighbors who insist on mowing at night. One was mowing until at least 10pm last night. Don't understand why they insist on only doing it then but I guess it doesn't bug me.

    Re: Mowing the Lawn

Personally, I never start before 9 am and usually would never consider starting after 7pm. Mainly because the mosquitos are so bad in my neighborhood that anytime before or after that, it's hell.

On the other hand, I really don't care when a neighbor decides to mow. When you spend a few years living next to a guy who mows once a month at the most, you appreciate anyone taking the time to do it now.

I'd be afraid of mowing over something bad mowing that late?

The snowblowing doesn't bother me because it lets me know that I will probably have to snowblow before going to work.

We've never had that problem with bedtime, but did with naps before (not really anymore). My son's nap time moved around quite a bit over the first couple years and it seemed like whenever he was settled down for a nap is when the professional mowers with the big loud mowers - and especially leaf blowers - would show up.

No one on my street mows real early or late, but snow blowing in the winter is a different story. There's an old guy that likes to get out before 7 and start snowblowing.

    Re: Mowing the Lawn

Start between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. I would rather have it done before dinner so I can just clean up and relax for the evening. Snowblowing never seems to wake me up in the winter. Mowing, however, is a different story. We have families across all ages in our neighborhood. No elderly as far as I know.

Although, I have a question I would like answered. Why do people think that a lot of land in the middle of the city is suddenly a public trash can? Every week I head to just south of Downtown Des Moines to mow my one of my grandpa's properties and I swear I have to spend 10 minutes picking up so much garbage before I can even start.

do you live in Schaumburg? That guy could be me. When it comes to snow, it's an all best are off deal, imo. If it's still snowing, I never get up early and start up the snowblower, but if it's done snowing, I'm usually out there at about 6:30. I have to get the kids to school and get to work. I have let it go for a day before, let my wife drive all over it, let it warm up during the day, then cool down and refreeze at night. When it comes to snow, I get it off the driveway ASAP. If my neighbors don't like it, they can offer to clean my driveway for me.
